The “WHY”?

Directions:
Explain in a paragraph (5-8 complete sentences) why you choose the problem you ranked as number 1
in the list above, same for number 2 why and number 3, to every number until number 10.

Your paragraph should start with s Topic sentence – for example, “(insert number 1 problem here) is
important to address first over other global problems because (insert general statement that sums up
your main reasons).”

The remaining sentences in your paragraph must include SPECIFIC reasons that are base in real world
facts and should be based in your own opinion.

It is helpful to know your main reason before writing your paragraph. A quick outline will help you figure
this out before writing. Fill in the following outline before writing your paragraph.
1. Climate change is the most pressing issue because it directly impacts our planet and all life on it.
Melting glaciers are causing sea levels to rise, endangering coastal areas. Rising global
temperatures are causing extreme weather events like typhoons, droughts, and wildfires that
destroy homes, communities, and ecosystems. Human health and food production are also
being affected by climate change. And if we don’t take action now through sustainable practices,
we can lessen the damage.
2. Poverty prevents people from meeting their basic needs, it continues to be an important global
problem. Millions of people lack access to clean water, enough food, and shelter. Because there
are few options for education and employment, people who are born into poverty frequently
find it difficult to escape it. Since access to quality healthcare is frequently impossible to
accomplish, it also has an impact on health. Reducing poverty entails giving individuals a better
chance to live better lives. Initiatives like improved healthcare, education, and equitable pay are
crucial. Everyone gains from a more egalitarian society.
3. Global health have shown how vulnerable the world can be to rising illnesses. A great example
of how rapidly life may alter when a virus goes out of control is the COVID-19 pandemic. Millions
of people died, businesses crashed, and healthcare systems were overburdened. Being ready is
essential to averting pandemics in the future. Risks can be decreased by improving international
collaboration and healthcare infrastructure. It’s important to keep the entire world safe, not just
one nation.
4. Education Inequality has Millions of youngsters and young adults have their potential limited by
the issue of education inequality. Although it should be an essential right, access to high-quality
education often varies depending on a person’s place of birth. Schools in impoverished areas
typically have less resources and insufficient funding. Students suffer unfair disadvantages as a
result. Breaking the cycle of poverty requires education. Making sure that everyone can realize
their full potential, regardless of background, is the first step in addressing inequality.
5. Food security is necessary for survival. Due to economic hardships, conflicts, or climate change,
food is either too expensive or unavailable in many nations. Malnutrition has long-term
consequences for development and health, particularly in children. Policies that assist farmers,
better food distribution networks, and sustainable farming methods are all necessary to address
food insecurity. Communities flourish when people have access to enough nutritious food.
6. Gender Equality as well as other abused genders continue to be affected by gender inequality in
many facets of life. Equal rights and opportunities are at the heart of this issue, not just equal
compensation. Women continue to be removed from decision-making, healthcare, and
education in some places. Discrimination and violence are also caused by gender disparity. To
solve this issue, damaging cultural standards must be challenged and both genders must be
empowered. Everyone benefits from a more inclusive world.
7. Water scarcity is becoming an even bigger issue. Sanitation, cooking, and drinking all depend on
clean water. However, lots of people do not have regular access to it, particularly in rural areas.
Conflicts over resources and health issues might result from water shortages. Improving in
sustainable infrastructure and enhancing water management are two solutions. Before this
problem gets worse, we must take action right away.
8. Cybersecurity threats are become more severe. Cyberattacks have the ability to damage private
data, stop vital services, and even cause financial losses. We are increasingly susceptible to
these dangers the more interconnected we get. Improving security protocols and protecting
private information are essential. To keep people safe, businesses and governments alike must
make investments in cybersecurity. People must, however, exercise greater caution when it
comes to safeguarding their own digital life.
9. Unemployment causes a host of other societal issues. Losing a job has an impact on family
stability, self-esteem, and mental health in addition to income. Homelessness, criminal activity,
and poverty can all rise in response to high unemployment rates. In order to solve this problem,
additional employment opportunities and fair working conditions must be established.
Businesses and governments must cooperate to promote economic expansion. Providing skill
training to employees is also essential.
10. Mental health crises has grown more common but often overlooked. Millions of people suffer
from mental health conditions including anxiety and depression, yet many of them do not
receive the help they need. Stigma and limited availability of mental health services are also to
blame for this. Grave consequences from poor mental health can include reduced efficiency and
physical health issues. It is possible to save lives by increasing awareness and funding mental
health services. Everybody has the right to lead a happy and healthy life, both emotionally and
physically.
