Questions
Provide answers to all of the questions below:

1.Describe three consultation and communication processes that a company could use to support
and encourage staff to contribute to policy and procedure development processes.
 Information and Consultation of Employees (ICE): Based on UK regulations, ICE gives
employees the right to request that their employer informs and consults them about
organizational issues. Employers can set up employee forums and use effective methods
for running them.
 Health and Safety Committees and Toolbox Meetings: Establishing health and safety
committees and conducting regular “Tool Box” meetings allow staff to participate in safety-
related discussions. These forums encourage input and collaboration on safety policies
and procedures.
 Regular Updates and Team Meetings: Companies can provide regular updates to the
workforce through channels like email broadcasts or newsletters. Additionally, team
meetings with standing agenda items related to policy development foster open
communication and staff involvement.

2.Describe the contemporary approach of design thinking to organisational learning strategy

development.
 Understanding: In this phase, organizations explore their business context and empathize
with employees’ needs. By looking at learning and development from the employee’s
perspective, they gain insights into what’s possible and necessary.
 Ideation and Prototyping: Design thinking encourages rapid prototyping. Organizations
generate multiple ideas and create prototypes for learning solutions. This iterative process
ensures that the solution aligns with both learner and business needs.
 Testing and Refinement: Organizations test the prototypes with employees, gather
feedback, and refine the solutions. This human-centered approach ensures that the
learning strategy addresses real needs effectively.

3.Identify and describe two organisational learning theories that can be used as a basis for
developing an organisational learning strategy.
I. Experiential Learning Theory:

o Concept: Experiential learning theory, proposed by David Kolb, emphasizes

learning through direct experience and reflection.

o Key Elements:

Strathfield College RTO: 91223 CRICOS Provider Code: 02736K

BSBHRM613 Contribute to the development of learning and development strategies
 Concrete Experience: Learning occurs by engaging in real-world activities
and encountering situations.

 Reflective Observation: Learners reflect on their experiences, analyze

outcomes, and draw insights.

 Abstract Conceptualization: Learners create theories or models based on

their reflections.

 Active Experimentation: Applying new knowledge in practice and testing

hypotheses.

o Application: Organizations can encourage experiential learning by providing

opportunities for employees to learn from their work experiences, collaborate, and
reflect on their actions1.

II. Adaptive and Generative Learning Theory:

o Concept: This theory, associated with Chris Argyris and Donald Schön,
distinguishes between single-loop and double-loop learning.

o Single-Loop Learning: Involves making minor adjustments to existing practices

based on feedback. It’s reactive and focuses on fixing problems.

o Double-Loop Learning: Goes beyond surface adjustments. It questions underlying

assumptions, norms, and mental models. Organizations adapt and innovate by
challenging the status quo.

o Application: Organizations can foster adaptive learning by encouraging continuous

improvement (single-loop) and generative learning by promoting critical reflection
and questioning fundamental assumptions (double-loop)

4.Describe the importance of continuous improvement as part of a company’s organisational

learning strategy and outline three types of continuous improvement processes that could be
used to undertake this.
 Importance of Continuous Improvement:

o Competitive Edge: Organizations that embrace continuous improvement gain a

competitive edge by consistently enhancing processes, products, and services.
o Innovation: It encourages innovation by challenging the status quo and seeking
better ways of doing things.
o Employee Engagement: A culture of continuous learning boosts employee
engagement and satisfaction.
o Adaptability: It enables organizations to respond effectively to market changes and
demands.

 Types of Continuous Improvement Processes:

o PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act): A cyclical process involving planning, implementing,

evaluating, and adjusting to improve processes.

Strathfield College RTO: 91223 CRICOS Provider Code: 02736K

BSBHRM613 Contribute to the development of learning and development strategies
o Kaizen: A Japanese term for continuous improvement, emphasizing small,
incremental changes across all levels of the organization.
o Lean Six Sigma: Combines Lean principles (eliminating waste) with Six Sigma
(reducing defects) to optimize processes and enhance quality.

5.Describe three evaluation strategies that can be used for reviewing organisational learning
strategy.
 Strategic Approach to Evaluation:

o This involves having a clear vision for evaluation, fostering a culture of learning
within the organization, and ensuring a compelling and cogent strategy.

o Coordinated evaluation and learning activities are essential, along with creating a
supportive environment.

 Knowledge-Based Assessment:

o Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your organization’s knowledge base.

o Identify areas where reinforcement is needed to enhance learning.

 Learning Climate Assessment:

o Assess the work culture’s effect on learning.

o Consider how the organization’s climate supports or hinders the adoption of new
knowledge and practices.

6.Describe two quality management compliance requirements relating to organisational learning.

 Define Real Requirements:

o Clearly specify what’s needed for each business process to achieve its objectives.

o Focus on driving high customer satisfaction and streamline processes to minimize

unnecessary steps.

 Document Everything:

o Document business processes and ensure stakeholder review and approval.

o Written documentation helps maintain alignment and consistency across the

organization.

7.Identify and describe two international compliance requirements relating to e-learning.
 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

o Description: GDPR is a regulation in the European Union (EU) that governs

data protection and privacy for all individuals within the EU and the European
Economic Area (EEA). It also addresses the transfer of personal data outside
the EU and EEA areas.

o Relevance to E-Learning: E-learning platforms that collect, store, or process

personal data of EU citizens must comply with GDPR. This includes ensuring
data security, obtaining explicit consent from users, providing the right to
access and delete personal data, and reporting data breaches within 72 hours.

2. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (U.S.):

o Description: Section 508 requires federal agencies to make their electronic and
information technology (EIT) accessible to people with disabilities. This
includes websites, online training, and other digital content.

o Relevance to E-Learning: E-learning content must be accessible to all users,

including those with disabilities. This involves providing alternative text for
images, ensuring keyboard navigability, and using accessible multimedia
content. Compliance with Section 508 ensures that e-learning platforms are
inclusive and cater to a diverse audience.

rates, and skill development.
 Collaboration and Communication Tools

Effective organizational learning often requires collaboration and knowledge sharing among
employees. Tools that facilitate communication and collaboration can significantly enhance learning
experiences. These tools include:

o Intranet Platforms: Provide a space for employees to share knowledge, best

practices, and resources.
