Question 12:
Bob wants to cover the floor of a room 3 m wide and 4 m long with
squared tiles. If each square tile is of side 0.5 m, then find the number
of tiles required to cover the floor of the room.
Answer.
Width of room = 3 m
Length of room = 4 m
Area of room = L X B
Area of room = 3 m X 4 m
= 12 m2
Side of 1 square tile = 0.5 m
Area of 1 square tile = 0.5 m X 0.5 m
= 0.25 m2
No of tiles = area of room ÷ area of 1 square tile
= 12 m2 ÷ 0.25 m2
= 1200 ÷ 25
=48

90
Time car takes to complete 30 km is 50 minutes.

2.
2 hours = 2 X 60 minutes = 120 minutes.
Distance car covers in 150 minutes = 90 km
Distance care covers in 1 minute = 90 ÷ 150
Distance car covers in 120 minutes = 90 X 120
150
= 72 km
Distance car covers in 2 hours is 72 km.

Question 21:
The floor is 5 m long and 4 m wide. A square carpet having sides as 3 m
is laid on the floor. Find the area of the floor that is not carpeted
Answer.
Length of the floor = 5 m
Width of the floor = 4 m
Area of the floor = L X B = 5 m X 4 m
= 20 m2
Side of the square carpet = 3 m
Area of the square carpet = side X side = 3 m x 3 m
= 9 m2
Area of the floor which is not carpeted = Area of floor – Area of Carpet
= 20 m2 – 9 m2 = 11 m2
Area of the floor which is not carpeted = 11 m2

Question 23:
The number of sheets of paper available for making notebooks is
75,000. Each sheet makes 8 pages of a notebook. Each notebook
contains 200 pages. How many notebooks can be made from the paper
available?
Answer.
Each sheet = 8 pages.
Hence, 75,000 sheets make 8 × 75,000 pages,
Now, 75000 × 8 = 600000
Thus, 6,00,000 pages are available for making notebooks.
Now, 200 pages = 1 notebook.
Hence, 6,00,000 pages make 6,00,000 ÷ 200 notebooks = 3000.
The answer is 3,000 notebooks.
