Excel Basics Tutorial Guide (Beginner Level)

1. What is Microsoft Excel?

- Microsoft Excel is a program used to store and organize information.

- It looks like a big table made of rows and columns.

- We use it to keep records, do simple calculations, and make basic charts.

2. Getting Started with Excel

- When you open Excel, you see a grid of boxes. These boxes are called cells.

- The horizontal lines are called rows (numbered 1, 2, 3...).

- The vertical lines are called columns (labeled A, B, C...).

- A cell is where a row and column meet. For example, cell A1 is where Column A and Row 1 meet.

3. Entering Data

- Click on a cell to select it.

- Type text or numbers, then press Enter.

- You can use the arrow keys to move around.

4. Saving Your Work

- Click File > Save As to save your file.

- Give your file a name and choose where to save it (like Desktop or Documents).

- Use Ctrl + S often to save your progress.

5. Simple Formatting

- Use the Home tab to:

- Change the font size

- Make text bold or italic

- Add color to text or cells

6. Basic Calculations

- Excel can do simple math.

- In any cell, type:

- =1+1 and press Enter. Excel will show the answer: 2

- Try subtraction: =5-2

- Multiplication: =3*4

- Division: =8/2

7. Simple Functions

- Functions are built-in tools to do work faster.

- Example:

- Type numbers in cells A1, A2, and A3.

- In A4, type =SUM(A1:A3) and press Enter. Excel adds the numbers.

8. Making It Look Nice

- You can make column titles bold.

- Add borders around your table.

- Adjust column width to fit the text.

9. Practice Time

Try these steps:

1. Type some names in Column A.

2. Type scores in Column B.

3. Add the scores using =SUM(B1:B3)

4. Change the color of the column titles.

5. Save your file.

That's it!

You now know the very basics of Excel.

Keep practicing and try exploring more buttons on the Home tab!
