Professor Dr. Misha
Subject Computer
Networks
1.Ping
Syntax: ping <hostname>

Explanation:
ping checks if a device is reachable over a network by
sending ICMP packets. It reports response time, packet loss,
and basic connectivity status.

Output:
2.NetStat
Syntax: netstat

Explanation:
netstat displays active network connections, listening ports,
and network statistics. It helps diagnose network issues and
monitor open connections on your device.

Output:
3.IpConfig
Syntax: ipconfig

Explanation:
ipconfig shows your computer’s IP address, subnet mask,
and gateway info. It’s used to view or reset network settings
like DNS and DHCP leases.

Output:
4.Hostname
Syntax: hostname

Explanation:
hostname displays the name of the current computer or
network device.
It’s useful for identifying a machine on a local network or in
scripts.

Output:

5.Tracert
Syntax: tracert <hostname>

Explanation:
tracert traces the route packets take to reach a destination,
showing each hop along the way. It helps diagnose where
delays or failures occur in the network path.

Output:
6.Nslookup
Syntax: nslookup <hostname>

Explanation:
nslookup queries DNS to find the IP address of a domain
name (or vice versa). It’s used to troubleshoot DNS issues
and verify domain resolution.

Output:
7.Route
Syntax: route print -<version number>

Usage:
route displays or modifies the system's IP routing table. It
lets you control how and where network traffic is directed.

Output:
8.Arp
Syntax: arp -a

Usage:
arp displays or modifies the ARP table, which maps IP
addresses to MAC addresses.
It's used to diagnose or manually manage local network
address resolution.

Output:
Summary:
In computer networking, commands like ping, tracert, and
nslookup are used to test connectivity, trace data paths, and
resolve domain names. ipconfig displays network
configuration details, while hostname identifies the system
on a network. netstat reveals active connections and
listening ports, and route allows inspection and modification
of the routing table. Lastly, arp provides access to the IP-to-
MAC address mapping table. Together, these commands are
fundamental for analyzing and troubleshooting network
communication.
