1. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course examines the principles of the immune system, including the immune response and principles of immunity in humans. Principles of antibodyantigen relationship are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the biology of the immune response and the mechanisms controlling antibody synthesis, its development and function. Immununopathology, immunoserology and immunotherapy are also incorporated. 2. TEXT: Immunology: A short course, Coico & Sunshine, 6th edition, Wiley-Blackwell Publishers, 2009 3. TIME REQUIREMENTS: SSI 2012 10 classes X 3hr lecture/class 30 lecture hours (includes 3 hour final exam), 60 supplemental hours Total minimum time: 90 hours [Fall Semester: 13, 2-hour sessions; 26 lecture hours] 4. CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION: A. two-hour midterm examination (50% of final grade), TBA B. two-hour final examination (50% of final grade), TBA Grades are computed according to the averages of the exams noted above and letter grades are assigned based on those averages and standards set by the Professor and the University. 5. MAKE-UP EXAMINATIONS: Make-up exams will be given only with the instructors prior approval and only with a documented, justifiable reason for his/her absence. The reason must be of a significant nature to justify absence from a scheduled exam and must be accompanied by documented proof. No make-up will be allowed for an unexcused absence from the scheduled exams.
