History
Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem during the census. Mary and Joseph were refused accommodations because there "was no room at the inn."

Since the beginning of time, people have traveled for commerce, religion, family, health, immigration, education and recreation.

Hospitality" comes from the Latin root meaning "host" or "hospice. The first hotels were nothing more than private homes opened to the public. During Roman Empire, inns and hotels began catering to the pleasure traveler in an effort to encourage visitors.

In America, the first inn was recorded to have been established in 1607. In 1792, the City Hotel, the first publicly held hotel, opened in New York. The Tremont opened in Boston in 1809. It was the first modern hotel in America. The Buffalo Statler, the first business hotel in America began its operations in 1908.

The oldest hotel in the world is Hoshi Ryokan (Japan), 1,292 years in operation.

Today, a surge of hotels flooded American and the rest of the world with prominent names such as Marriot, Hilton, and Four Seasons. The largest hotel is the First World Hotel located in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. It has 6,118 rooms. The tallest hotel is the Rose Tower which is located in Dubai. It is 333 meters tall.

What is a Hotel?
A structure providing sleeping accommodation and that usually features a dining facility and daily housekeeping service. D.O.T Definition: A building, edifice or premises or a completely independent part thereof, which is use for the regular reception, accommodation or lodging of travelers and tourists and the provision of services incidental thereto for a fee.

Hotels are generally classified in terms of:

SIZE Small - 1 to 150 Sleeping Rooms Medium - 151 to 400 Sleeping Rooms Large - 401 to 1,500 Sleeping Rooms Mega - 1,501 and over Sleeping Rooms

LOCATION Downtown hotels located within dense urban areas or within the city. Resort hotels near a special attraction or that creates its own special attraction. Airport hotels located outside or near major airports. Suburban hotels located outside the city, or not near the airport or

PRODUCT TYPE (Target Market) Standard hotels with traditional room setups. Extended Stay hotels with rooms equipped with amenities and facilities for long staying guests. All Suite hotels rivaling the suite rooms of upscale and luxury hotels.
