Came from the latin word COMMUNICARE Communication is a process that allows organisms to exchange information by several methods. Communication requires that all parties understand a common language that is exchanged with each other. There are auditory means, such as speaking, singing and sometimes tone of voice, and nonverbal, physical means, such as body language, sign language, paralanguage, touch, eye contact, or the use of writing.

Barriers to Communication
Anything that obstructs free flow of communication is refered to as barrier to communication
Physical (time, environment, comfort, needs, physical medium) Cultural (ethnic, religious, and social differences) Perceptional (viewing what is said from your own mindset) Motivational (mental inertia) Experiential (lack of similar experience) Emotional (personal feelings at the moment) Linguistic (different languages or vocabulary) Non-verbal (non-word messages) Competition (noise, doing other things besides listening) Words (we assign a meaning to a word often because of culture.
