SPACE: Beyond the Solar

System
For thousands of years,
it was mostly questions
and few answers until
Galilei Galileo invented
his own version of
telescope.
TELESCOPE
Ordinary telescope are
called optical telescope.
They are used for viewing
distant objects. All optical
telescopes have the same
basic components and
functions.
Basic components of the Telescope
Objective lens or mirror used to
gather and concentrate light.
Ocular lens or eyepiece used to
view the focused image.
All telescopes magnify small images
of objects that are actually large.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
Refracting Telescope
Consists of a two-lens eyepiece
and a large convex lens
objective. The light coming from
the distant object enters the
objective lens. The light rays are
bent towards a single point.

Reflecting Telescope
It uses system of mirrors rather a
lens for its objective. The
incoming light is reflected by a
concave mirror at the lower end
of the tube.

KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
Modern Telescope
Combination of refracting and
reflecting telescope. Refractors
can take wide portion of the sky
but cannot collect enough light
for a good picture. Reflector
have better light collection but
can only view a small portion of
the sky.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
CATADIOPTRIC SYSTEM
Such telescope are powerful
enough to view stars , quasars,
meteors, and celestial
phenomena.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
Optical telescopes form
images from the light emitted
or reflected by the observed
distant object. But light is not
the only source of information
from the space beyond.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
In fact, our planet is being
showered continuously by
atomic and sub-atomic
particles that what we call
radiation in the form of
electromagnetic waves. Most
of these radiations are deadly.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
The earths geomagnetism is
another protective shield against
the deadly radiations. It is believed
that these radiations are trapped
within the earths magnetic field
forming a belt of radioactive
particles called Van Allen Belt.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
Scientist knew that radiations
from outer space can provide a
better picture of stars and
other heavenly bodies.

Radio Telescope
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
Radio Telescope is an
instrument for detecting radio
waves emitted by distant
objects as a means of
obtaining information about
the space.
KINDS OF OPTICAL TELESCOPE
Radio Telescope consists of a
parabolic (disk-shaped) mirror that
reflects radio waves to a
preamplifier, which converts the
waves into electronic impulses
that are then fed into an electronic
mixer to reconvert the electronic
signals into audible signals and
visual images.
