Conduction :-diffusion of heat due to temperature
gradient.

Conduction
Conduction
Conduction is heat transfer by means of molecular agitation within a
material without any motion of the material as a whole. If one end of
a metal rod is at a higher temperature, then energy will be
transferred down the rod toward the colder end
The Thermal Conductivity
the thermal conductivity, k, of a material is defined as the rate of heat transfer through a unit
thickness of the material per unit area per unit temperature difference. Therefore it is a
measure of how fast heat will flow in the material. A large value for thermal conductivity
indicates that the material is a good conductor, and a low value indicates that the material is
a poor conductor or a good insulator.
The positive constant k is called the coefficient of thermal Conductivity of the
material. The negative sign indicates that heat transfer takes place in the direction of
.decreasing temperature. Coefficient of thermal conductivity has the units of watts/m C
.The Thermal Conductivity Of Fluids

In gases and liquids, conduction is due to the collision and diffusion of

the
. molecules during their random motion
The rate of heat conduction is proportional to the area and
the temperature difference, and inversely proportional to the
thickness of the material. The constant of proportionality is the
.thermal conductivity

The Thermal Conductivity Of A
METAL .ROD
Conduction is a process of heat transfer through solids. When a
temperature gradient exists in a body, experience has shown that there
is a transfer of heat from the high temperature region to the low
temperature region. The heat transfer rate per unit area is proportional
to the temperature gradient
Where, q is the heat transfer rate (watts), A is the area of heat transfer
,(m2)
T/ X is the temperature gradient in the direction of heat flow (C/m).
