VISUAL EFFECTS
Visual effects are the various processes by
which imagery is created and/or manipulated
outside the context of a live action shot.

involve the integration of live-action footage

and generated imagery

create environments which look realistic

which is impossible to capture on film.
CGI :Computer Generated Imagery
 The images that you create on the
computer
 Anything that is created digitally within
the computers
 Uses Computer graphics
 For films, games, and fine art from
their home computers
Scope in VFX industry
 The scope of visual effects is very widening and
progressive.
 A large number of international studios and companies
are outsourcing work to Indian artists all the time. This is a
great time to pursue a career in VFX.
 Almost all films that are made these days require certain
amount of visual effects in it.
 Artificial imagery is a very popular business in today’s
day and age.
 Every supernatural scene, bomb blast, fire scene or even
crowd multiplication is done with visual effects. Visual
effects is also used for background manipulation
TYPES OF VFX
 Matte paintings
 Digital animation
 Live action
Matte Painting
These are
traditional
paintings or stills
which are prepared
according to the
film style and
deployed as the
backgrounds for
key elements of
animation.
Digital Animation
 It involves everything from modeling and
texturing to lighting and rendering computer
generated 3D techniques. To make
animation look more realistic and powerful,
digital animation fosters all the dimensional
based actions and imagery.
Live Action
 Live action effects involve capturing the
action through cinematography and
videography. The elements of the animation
are keyed through several kinds of light. For
this purpose, several animation studios make
use of green- screens and blue- screens.
VFX TECHNIQUES
 COMPOSITING
 KEYING
 ROTOSCOPING
 MOTION TRACKING
 MODELING
 TEXTURING
 PARTICLE EFFECTS
Compositing
Taking real-life
elements with
Computer
Generated
(CG) Element
and putting
them together -
often to create
the illusion that
all those
elements are
parts of the
same scene
Chroma Keying
 Technique for mixing
two images or
frames together
 A color (or a small
color range) from
one image is
removed (or made
transparent),
revealing another
image behind it
Rotoscoping
 In the visual effects industry, the term
rotoscoping refers to the technique of
manually creating a matte for an
element on a live- action plate so it may
be composited over another
background.
Motion Tracking
Tracking is when
you try and
replicate camera
movement from
the shot on that
day to elements
that were not
there originally in
the shot.
MODELING & TEXTURING
 Modeling is the process
of developing a
mathematical
representation of any 3D
surface of an object
 Texturing is a method
for defining high
frequency detail, surface
texture, or color
information on a
computer-generated
graphical 3D model
Particle Effects
A technique that uses
small graphic objects
to simulate certain
kinds of "fuzzy"
phenomena Examples
of such phenomena
which are commonly
replicated using
particle systems
include fire,
explosions, smoke,
moving water
TOOLS USED WITH VFX
 Studio Adobe Premiere pro
 Adobe After Effects
 Mocha
 Maya ed
 Nuke
 Dx Studio
 Gelato
 Light wave 3D
 Micro station
 Real Flow Etc…
