Mano (Singer)
Nagoor Babu, known by his stage name Mano, is an Indian playback singer, voice-
over artist, actor, producer, television anchor and music composer. He is a recipient
of several awards such as the Nandi Awards from the Government of Andhra
Pradesh and Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu. His father
Rasool, was a musician in the All India Radio, Vijayawada division and his mother
Shaheeda, was a popular Stage actress. Inspired heavily by his mother, Mano joined
the stage theater and played many historical characters which also involved singing
live songs in his own voice. He soon started taking formal training
of carnatic classical music under the vocalist Nedunuri Krishnamurthy.
Subsequently, he started his film acting career in the late 1970s and acted in about
40 movies as child artist. He featured as a supporting character in films such
as Rangoon Rowdy. He dubbed his voice for almost all Rajinikanth starrers in
Telugu. His voice became almost synonymous with Rajinikanth and was in great
demand by all the directors and producers. He also dubbed his voice for Kamal
Haasan in some movies in Telugu.
Mano is hosting Manathodu Mano - a musical talk show in Jaya TV. He is also one of the permanent
musical reality show Airtel Super Singer Junior along with Chitra and Malgudi Subha. He also co-judges the
musical show Idea Super Singer on Maa TV. The year was 1994. The song on everyone's lips was `Muqabla
Muqabla' from the film `Kaadhalan, (music by A. R. Rahman). Suddenly everyone was talking about
playback singer Mano who had finally arrived and hit big time. For Mano long considered a clone or carbon
copy of S. P. Balasubramaniam the song proved to be the turning point of his career and gave him a well
deserved break. There has been no looking back since then and hit after hit followed with ``Thillana in
Muthu, (music by A. R. Rahman,) and a string of hits in `Ullathai Alli Tha ``Azhagiya Lailaa, I love you
love you, ``Adi Anarkali. Music by Sirpi. With a track record of 16,700 songs in 15 languages Mano with
his robust voice, that has body, that emanates from his lungs and traipses across the octaves with effortless
ease, not to forget a range and versatility that is amazing is currently riding the crest of a wave of success.
About the songs in Ullathai Alli Tha Mano says Sirpi tried composing something different and all the songs
have become hits. Some of the songs like the `Azhagiya Laila' have an Arabic flavour of the `Aye Shabbha'
song .Mano believes that the success of a song depends to a great deal on team work.
