NOISE AND ELECTRICAL

DISTORTION
NOISE

• Noise is an unwanted random signal that is added (superposition)

to a signal. Noise is added on signals due to many natural reasons
when it is travelling through a medium.
• Noise can randomly fluctuate the signals, and it disturbs the
process of revealing the information sent through a signal.
NOISE VS INTERFERENCE

NOISE INTERFERENCE
• in the general sense can be • Interference is the same thing.
anything that is unwanted when • It is when the undesired (noise)
trying to receive a signal signal starts to make receiving the
desired signal difficult.
THERMAL NOISE

Johnson–Nyquist noise or
thermal noise is the
electronic noise generated
by the thermal agitation of
the charge carriers (usually
the electrons) inside an
electrical conductor at
equilibrium, which happens
regardless of any applied
voltage.
SHOT NOISE

Shot noise is a form of

noise that arises because
of the discrete nature of
the charges carried by
charge carriers, electrons
or holes.
BURST NOISE

Burst noise is a type of

electronic noise that
occurs in semiconductors
and ultra-thin gate oxide
films
COUPLED NOISE

noise may be generated in

the electronic circuit itself,
additional noise energy can
be coupled into a circuit
from the external
environment, by inductive
coupling or capacitive
coupling, or through the
antenna of a radio receiver.
DISTORTION

• Distortion is the alteration of the original shape (or other

characteristic) of something.
• In communications and electronics it means the alteration of the
waveform of an information-bearing signal
NOISE VS INTERFERENCE

NOISE INTERFERENCE DISTORTION

• in the general sense • Interference is the same • Distortion is a
can be anything that is thing. change in signal due
unwanted when trying • It is when the undesired to its medium
to receive a signal (noise) signal starts to make
receiving the desired signal
difficult.
AMPLITUDE DISTORTION

Amplitude distortion is
distortion occurring in a
system, subsystem, or
device when the output
amplitude is not a linear
function of the input
amplitude under specified
conditions
PHASE DISTORTION

phase distortion or phase-

frequency distortion is
distortion, that is, change in
the shape of the waveform,
that occurs when (a) a filter's
phase response is not linear
over the frequency range of
interest
