What is RWH
• It is simply collecting, storing and purifying
the naturally soft and pure water that falls
upon roofs
• May be utilized for both potable and non
potable requirements
– Drinking, bathing and cooking – potable
– Toilet flushing
– Laundry (reduces detergent and bleach)
– Irrigation of lawns
– Livestock and animals
Water Quality 4
Why to Harvest Rain
• Groundwater is scarce
• GW is contaminated
• Terrain is mountaineous
• Aquifer at the risk of salt water intrusion
• Electricity and water prices are rising
• Water is too hard (due to minerals)
• Water supply is un-relaiable
• Water conservation

How to Harvest rain –
6 basis components
• Catchment – roof surface to collect
• Conveyance – channels and pipes to transfer
• Roof washing: first flush is not suitable
• Storage: large tanks to store safety – insects
restriction
• Purification: filtration of leaves , UV etc
• Distribution: system to take water from
storage to required point
