SYSTEM UNIT
UNIT 1-System Unit Assembling and Disassembling
COMPUTER
Isa device that reduces human efforts in
processing,storing, and displaying
information.
Computer once aided a person who did
calculations,yet now the term almost
universally refers to automated electronic
machinery.
Primary Parts of a Computer
MONITOR
-It shows the computer’ UI and open applications, enabling
the user to connect with the computer.
COMPUTER MOUSE
-A mouse is a small handled input device that controls a
computer screen’s cursor or pointer interconnected into its
movement on a flat surface.
COMPUTER KEYBOARD
-A computer keyboard is one of the essential input device
utilize with a computer that looks to be like those found on
electric typerwriters, however with some extra
keys.Keyboard enter letters, numbers and different symbols
into a computer that can fill in as commands or to be used
to type fast.
SYSTEM UNIT
-Also known as TOWER or CHASSIS, is the main part of a
computer.It incorporates the mother,CPU,RAM,and other
parts. It also includes the case the houses the inside
components of the computer.
POWER SUPPLY
-The power supply unit is the piece of hardware that used to
convert the power provided from the outlet into usable power for
the many parts inside the computer case. It converts the
ALTERNATING CURRENT(AC)into continuous form of power that the
computer components need in order to run normally, called DIRECT
CURRENT (DC) .It also regulates overheating by controlling
voltage, which may change automatically or manually depending
on the power supply.
WIRING COLOR CODE
HARD DISK DRIVE
-It is a non-volatile computer storage device containing
magnetic disks or platters rotating at high speeds. It is also
divided into one or more partitions , which can be further
divided into logical drives or volumes.
RAM
-RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY is a type of data storage in
computers that is generally located on the motherboard. This
type of memory is volatile and all information that was stored
in RAM is lost when the computer is turned off.
VIDEO CARD
-A video card is a computer part that is used to enhance the
quality of graphics appeared on a display. It is attached to the
motherboard. It controls and calculates a graphics appearance
on the screen. The video card is an intermediate device that
accelerates the video throughout. Most video cards are built in
to the “motherboard”.
MOTHER BOARD
-It is a printed circuit board that is the foundation of a
computer, located on the back side or the bottom of the
computer chassis. It allocates power and allows communication
to the CPU, RAM, and all other computer hardware
components.
BACK PANEL CONNECTORS AND PORTS
-It is for connecting the computer to external devices such as
display ports, audio ports, USB ports, Ethernet ports, PS/2
ports, etc.
PCT SLOT
-PERIPHERAL COMPONENT INTERCONNECT is a slot for older
expansion cards such as sound card, network card, and connector
cards.
PCI EXPRESS x1 SLOT
-This PCI slot is for the modern expansion cards such as sound
card, network card (WI-FI ,ETHERNET, BLUETOOTH), connectors
cards (USB, FIREWIRE, eSATA), and certain low-end graphics card.
PCI EXPRESS x16 SLOT
- This slot is for graphic card and high bandwidth devices such as
solid-state drives.
NORTH BRIDGE
-A chipset that allows the CPU to communicate with the RAM and
graphics card.
CPU Socket
-This socket is the connector on the motherboard that houses a
CPU and structures the electrical interface and contact with the
CPU
ATX 12V POWER CONNECTOR
-A 4-pin power cable socket for power supply unit which
supplies power to the CPU.
FRONT PANEL USB 2.0 CONNECTORS
-Connectors to 2.0 USB port at the front or top part of a computer
case.
FRONT PANEL CONNECTORS
-Connects to the power switch, reset switch, power LED, hard
drive LED, and front audio ports of a computer case.
IDE CONNECTOR
-Connects to the older hard disk drive and optical drives for data
transfer
CMOS BATTERY
-Supplies power to store BIOS settings and keep the real time
clock running.
SOUTH BRIDGE
-Chipset that allows CPU to communicate with PCI slots, SATA
connectors, USB ports, Ethernet ports, and on-board audio.
SATA CONNECTORS
-Connects to modern hard disk drive, solid state drives, and
optical drives or data transfer.
FAN HEADERS
-Supplies power to the CPU heatsink fan and computer case fans.
RAM SLOTS
-Allow computer memory to be inserted into the computer.
Depending on the motherboard, there may be two to four memory
slots. Determining the type of RAM used in the computer is also
dependent on the motherboard.
