IMPLEMENTATION OF CONQUAS
COURSE OBJECTIVE
At the end of the module, participants will be:
able to understand the basic knowledge of
CONQUAS standards.
know the assessment methods used for
structural, architectural and M&E works.
know how to use the assessment tools.

OBJECTIVES
7
BENEFIT OF CONQUAS.
9
BACKGROUND
1. CONQUAS launched in
1989.
2. BCA assessed over
*2,160 projects.
3. Total cumulative
contract value exceeding
*S$76.1 billion.
4. Gamuda Land started
system in 2003.
5. As at end 2007, 90
projects (phases) in 5
development already
been assessed.

Malaysia's CIDB QUALITY ASSESSMENT (QLASSIC)
Developed By CIDB
Malaysia
QLASSIC launched by
CIDB towards the end of
2006.
QLASSIC is CIDB’s
equivalent of CONQUAS
by BCA.
12
SCOPE OF CONQUAS
Assessment consists of
3 main components :
Structural Works
Architectural
Works
Mechanical &
Electrical Works
13
ASSESSMENT APPROACH
Assessment is based on :
site inspection,
laboratory testing
field testing
No re-score to encourage
“do it right the first time”.
14
SAMPLING
Impractical to
conduct full
assessment.
Sampling based on
GFA (Gross Floor Area).
Samples are
distributed uniformly
throughout the
construction stage.
15
ASSESSMENT TOOLS
1. CONQUAS Rod -
Hollowness
17
ASSESSMENT TOOLS
3. Taper Gauge -
Gaps
Wall, floor including
doors & windows
checked for gaps
and finished
evenness.
Tolerance is 3mm
per 1.2m for floor
alignment, gap
between door/
window leaf and
frame not > 5mm. 18

20
(1) Structural Works Assessment
21
SCOPE
1. Reinforced Concrete
Works.
2. Structural Steel Works.
3. Pre-stressed Concrete
Works.
22
Structural Works Assessment
1. A sample can be a
beam, a column, a wall
or a slab.
23
Structural Standards
Formwork
Formwork tolerance for cross-sectional dimension + 10mm / - 5mm.
Condition of fwk. – free from defects, joints must not have gaps to
prevent leakage & must have adequate support, bracing and tie back
to prevent fwk. from bulging and displacement of structure elements.
Reinforcement.
according to structural drawings (numbers / sizes).
spacing of bars not more then specified.
anchorage & lap length not less then specified.
cover tolerance + 5mm. links, stirrups and trimming bars according to
drawings (number / size).
rebar condition - rebar must be securely and properly tied in place &
rebar must be free from concrete dropping, corrosion etc.
24
Structural Standards
Finished concrete.
25
FAULT FOUND DURING ASSESSMENT
• Formwork damaged
• Link without cover
• Link dented
• Surface patched before
assessment.
• Minor honeycomb.

38
EXTERNAL WORKS ASSESSMENT
Assessment is by location.
11 types of External Works
can be assessed:
1. Linkway/Shelter
2. Apron and Drain
