THE PROPOSED LAND USE PLAN FOR YEAR 2016- 2026

Land Use: Institutional/ Commercial / Open space

The 2016-2026 proposed land use of Olongapo City (marikit area) was concentrated to
be utilized as an institutional and commercial area compared to the land use of 2011 of
olongapo city where it can be seen that within the vicnity residential area was evident.

Proposed Development

MICE Destination and Business

Outsourcing Center

There exist a demand of meeting, incentives,

conventions, exhibitions and events tourism
industry in the region. Taking advantage of this
opportunity is feasible, considering the City of
being proximate to the corporate industrial
doors of the W growth corridor. Olongapo City
can conveniently cater incomparably to the
demand of this particular industry. An old 14.3
hectare civic complex, popularly known as the
Marikit Park was viewed by the business
community suitable for redevelopment.
Situated in the area are institutional
establishments, such as the decade old Marikit
Park, Tennis Court of the local tennis
aficionados, the City Convention Center, the
City Museum, a Command Center of the City’s
DRRMO, and the City-run College, Gordon
College.
Conclusion

Based from my analysis not all developments are really developments sometimes it is just for
the people who are in the government and not for the people. As the SM Olongapo City Central
situated in the old Marikit Park many public spaces was disregarded by the development such
as the Leo’s Park, the OCCC, The Museum and the Public Library of Olongapo City, removing a
part of the Olongapo City’s character. Even the environment of the area was disregarded, many
trees were cut down and replaced by a massive concrete mall that doesn’t even generate air
for us to breathe and doesn’t work as a sponge that will help the community during natural
calaminities (flooding). This may be a great development but not enough to justify the long
gone public space for the people of Olongapo that will really generate as interactive space for
them. and real developments will only takes place if it was really inteded to the betterment of
the people and its environment.
