SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
 “Sustainable” describes how biological
systems remain diverse and productive
over time.
 It describes the potential for long-term
maintenance of well-being, which in
turn depends on the well-being of the
natural world and the responsible use of THE SUSTAINABILITY AND
natural resources. ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLINESS
OF A BUILDING IS RATED
ACCORDING TO ITS:
•Water efficiency – minimal waste
•Optimum use of energy using natural
insulation designs – use of daylight and
solar cells
•Reducing water and recycling –
concepts like rainwater harvesting
•Amount of natural green cover in and
around the building
•Overall increase in productivity of
occupants
GREEN BUILDING
 A building is green when it helps reduce the
footprint it leaves on the natural environment
and on the health of its inhabitants.
  A Green Building is one which uses less water,
optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural
resources, generates less waste and provides
healthier space for occupants as compared to
conventional buildings.

ELEMENTS OF GREEN BUILDING

•Increasing energy efficiency
•Materials selected for building your
home
•Increasing the efficiency of water
usage both in and outside of your
home
•Improving air quality, which
improves the health and productivity
of your family

•Energy Efficiency
•Day lighting
•Efficient Material Selection and
Management
•Over 80% of the construction waste

• Radiant cooling is most effective when
used in conjunction with other energy-
reducing systems. Cooling inside the
office space is achieved when the cold
slab absorbs the heat (radiation)
generated by people, computers, lighting
and other equipment which are exposed
to the slab. WORKING OF RADIANT COOLOING
TECHNOLOGY

• Radiant cooling is an innovative approach

to comfortable, high-efficiency cooling.
Pipes are installed in floors, walls, or
ceilings and circulate chilled water.

 Reduce energy consumption by 56%
from GRIHA benchmark. This is a 5
star GRIHA rated building.
 This building is designed according to
solar passive principles and has a high
performance building envelope,
consisting of insulated walls and roof.

facing windows.
•The windows have glass in a double glazed
unit with argon infill. This ensured that the
overall solar heat gain is limited to 1 w/sqft.
•Light shelves • its an overhang fixed between
the daylight panel and the visible panel
extending both inside and outside the building.
• It helps reflect natural light deep in the office
spaces and provides maximum protection from
BUILDING SHAPE AND ORIENTATION the glare.
• Above each window, a light shelf (a
flat, horizontal, panel) is installed
which reflects the incoming
sunlight onto the ceiling, thereby
distributing deeper into the space.
• This type of windows conserve
energy as they allow less heat in
the building and allow ample of
NATURAL DAYLIGHT DESIGN day light

• The windows are split into an upper pane

that lets in natural light and the lower
pane which provides the outside view.
• The windows are completely shaded with
horizontal louvers and vertical fins to
prevent glare. This ensures that the
entire office is day lit without glare from
8am to 5 pm.

• The building incorporates several world-class

energy and environment friendly features,
including solar PV systems, indoor air quality
monitoring, a high efficiency HVAC system, a
passive cooling system using wind towers, high
performance glass, aesthetic roof gardens, rain
water harvesting, root zone treatment system, etc.

climatic conditions.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
• Indoor air quality is continuously
monitored and a minimum fresh air is
pumped into the conditioned spaces at all
times.
• Fresh air is also drawn into the building
through wind towers. The use of low
volatile organic compound (VOC) paints
and coatings, adhesives, sealants, and
carpets also helps to improve indoor air
quality
• There are two air conditioning towers in
which the incoming air is cooled 7 t 8

• The courtyards act as a ‘light well’,
illuminating adjacent work areas.
• When this light is not sufficient,
sensors triggers the development of
efficient electric lights
• Dimmers automatically control the
illumination levels, turning the lights OPEN TO THE SIDE

ZERO WATER DISCHARGE BUILDING All of the wastewater,

including grey and black water, generated in the building is
treated biologically through a process called the Root Zone
Treatment System. The outlet-treated water meets the Central
Pollution Control Board (CPCB) norms. The treated water is used
for landscaping
SOIL ERROSION CONTROL AND
PREVENTION
• Honeycomb trays are placed in the areas
where loose soil is present or there are
more chance of soil erosion. They trap the
top layer of soil inside them preventing
soil erosion and allowing them to be
covered by turf.
• Top layer of soil was stacked and stored at
the time of construction and was again
used for the growth of vegetation.
• Water from the input tank is pumped to the
roots of plans.
• Plants grow on a series of pebbles, gravels,
stones and rocks so that their roots can
penetrate deep into the ground.
• A system of pipeline is laid inside the layers
through which the water is transferred
• This plant treat the water which is then

different species grow.
