We would like to thank our college, Pimpri Chinchwad College of
Engineering(PCCOE),and our faculty, Mrs. Bhandarkar Ma’am, to give us the
opportunity to carry out this project. This project has been really helpful for us
in understanding various concepts and real-life applications of components.
Introduction
In today’s world Automatic systems are being preferred over manual system.
Automatic system is a growing system of everyday object.
The traditional farmland irrigation techniques require manual intervention.
With the automated technology of irrigation the human intervention can be
minimized.
The Sytem uses Sensors for gathering data and takes requiresd action with the
help of Arduino microcontroller which carries out decision making.
Whenever there is a change in moisture level in soil the moisture sensor
senses the change in moisture level and takes acyion accordingly with the
help of microcontroller.
Objectives
The objective of the project are to design a smart drip irrigation system to
water plants with the use of devices like Arduino microcontroller
To make farming easy and many of the resource utilization improved.
To reduce the stress of manual watering of the plant
To reduce the water wastage by allowing water to be supplied to the plant
only when needed.
Components
Arduino Uno
Soil Moisture Sensor
LCD (16*2)
Transistor
Diode
Water Pump
LED
Connection Diagram
Working
The system uses Arduino Uno to control the Water Pump. The Arduino
microcontroller is programmed using Arduino IDE.
The Moisture Sensor senses the level of moisture and sends the data collected
to the Arduino through the Analog data output of the sensor.
The Arduino microcontroller compares the moisture content of the soil with
the predefined moisture level and takes the required action accordingly.
If the Moisture level of the soil is less than the predefined level than the
Arduino sends signals to the water pump and turns on the supply of water to
the plant and vice versa.
The LCD display indicates the soil content read by the Moisture Sensor.
LED’s indicates whether the motor is on or off.
Advantages
The system reduces human effort of turning on and off the water pump while
watering the plants.
The system is cost effective and easy to implement.
Reduces wastage of water.
Most efficient during Summer days as soil dries frequently due to high
temperature
Disadvantages
Malfunction in soil sensor can lead to failure of whole system.
The system should always be turned “ON” otherwise, turning off of the
system will result in failure of water to the plants.
Applications
In gardens for watering flowers.
Plant Nurseries.
Farms
The system can be also used for watering plants in specified proportion with
the help of microcontroller in Botanical garden.
Thank You……!!
