CULTIVATING A

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

LC CMNV | SOL I | Lesson 2.A | Coach Phia Garcia
Psalm 23:2a
“He makes me lie
down in the green
pastures”

(“Pinapahimlay niya
ako sa luntiang
pastulan,” )
He loved God’s house.
“One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I
seek: that I may dwell in the house of the
Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the
beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his
temple” (Psalm 27:4)

[Awit 27:4])
He prayed at dawn.
“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts
for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where
there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld
your power and your glory. Because your love is better than
life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I
live, and in your name I will lift up my hands” (Psalm 63:1-4)

Diyos, at pararangalan.
[Awit
63:1-4])
He had times of praying through the
night.
“On my bed I remember you; I think of you
through the watches of the night. Because you
are my help, I sing in the shadow of your
wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand
upholds me” (Psalm 63:6-8)
[Awit 63:6-8])
He was a committed worshipper.
“He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me,
and he prepares the way so that I may show
him the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50:23)
pasalamat, pagpupuring walang maliw; akin namang ililigtas
ang lahat na masunurin. [Awit 50:23])
He admitted his own faults.
“Then
“CreateI acknowledged my sin
in me a pure heart, to youand
O God, andrenew
did not cover up my
a steadfast
iniquity. I said,
spirit within “I will
me.” confess
(Psalm my transgressions to the Lord”
51:10)
and you forgave the guilt of my sin” (Psalm 32:5)
(“Isang pusong tapat sa aki’y likhain, bigyan mo, O Diyos,
(“Kaya’t
ng bagong angdamdamin.”
kasalanan ko’y
[Awitaking inamin; mga pagkakamali
51:10])
He was always aware of God’s presence.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all

who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18)

[Awit
145:18])
1. WHAT IS A DEVOTIONAL?
To be alone and intimate with God
everyday.
We can share what is in our hearts with
Him.
He reveals His will to us.
He expresses His great love towards us.
Tips for effective devotional
Set a time and define how long your devotional will
be.
Look for and create space for privacy.
Develop the habit of doing it in the morning, before
starting your routine.
Be sincere with yourself and with God.
Have your Bible and notebook at hand to write all
the things that God speaks to you through His Word.
Make a list of all requests that you will bring to the
Lord in prayer.
Strengthening our spiritual being in order
to enter into His presence
Two natures coexisting within us
1. The spiritual nature
2. The soulish or carnal nature.
The more we pray, the more our spiritual
nature is strengthened, while the soulish
nature becomes weaker.
Beginning to pray with joy and
thanksgiving
Nothing can cause greater joy in our hearts than being in
the presence of the Lord.
A grateful heart knows how to acknowledge God’s work
in every aspect of life.
Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in
word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Ama.”)
Having an attitude of praise at all times.
God had entrusted Jonah with the mission to preach in the
city of Nineveh.
Jonah 2:9-10 “’But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will
sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good.
Salvation comes from the Lord.’ And the Lord
commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.”

Understanding the Word
Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you in the way
you should go; I will counsel you and
watch over you.”

(“Aakayin kita sa daan, tuturuan kita at

laging papayuhan.”)
The Word of God can only penetrate the
deepest part of our being when we open
our hearts with childlike innocence.
Understanding the Word
1 Corinthians 2:14 “The man without the Spirit does
not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God,
for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot
understand them, because they are spiritually
discerned.”

paraang espirituwal.”)
When we understand the Word, a fire is
lit in our hearts
Luke 24:32 “They asked each other,
‘Were not our hearts burning within us
while he talked with us on the road and
opened the Scriptures to us?’”

(“Nasabi nila sa isa’t isa, ‘Kaya pala

nag-aalab ang ating puso habang tayo’y
kinakausap niya sa daan at
ipinapaliwanag sa atin ang mga
Kasulatan!”’)
When we understand the Word, a fire is
lit in our hearts
John14:21 “Whoever has my commands and
obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He
who loves me will be loved by my Father, and
I too will love him and show myself to him”

When we understand the Word, a fire is
lit in our hearts
John 8:31b-32 “If you hold to my
teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth, and the
truth will set you free.”

2. JESUS TAUGHT
HIS DISCIPLES
HOW TO PRAY
Prayer is the key that allows you to relate
to God
An only one path that leads us to
communicate with God.
A master key that opens the doors for us
to relate directly to the Lord.
Prayer is always answered
Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you
ask for in prayer, believe that you have received
it, and it will be yours.”

If we are able to ask in faith, He will do it.

Prayer is always answered
Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his
own Son, but gave him up for us all – how
will he not also, along with him,
graciously give us all things?”

We should pray in the Name of Jesus
John 14:13-14 “And I will do whatever you
ask in my name, so that the Son may bring
glory to the Father. You may ask me for
anything in my name, and I will do it”

gagawin.”)
Jesus is the only Mediator
1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God and
one mediator between God and men, the
man Christ Jesus.”

(“Sapagkat iisa ang Diyos at iisa lang

ang tagapamagitan sa Diyos at sa mga
tao, and taong si Cristo Jesus.”)
Jesus is the only Mediator
You can pray: “Lord, I come before You
in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth to bring
you these requests…. (specify each one),
trusting that by Your divine grace I will
receive them.”
God is our Provider
Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet
all your needs according to his glorious
riches in Christ Jesus.”

(“At buhat sa hindi mauubos na

kayamanan ng Diyos, ibibigay niya ang
lahat ng inyong kailangan sa
pamamagitan ni Cristo Jesus.”)
God is our Provider
Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd, I
shall not be in want.”

(“SiYahweh ang aking pastol, hindi ako

magkukulang;”)

Godis Lord of all things.

Abundance resides in Him.
Jesus said “yes” to the promises
IfGod promised to supply all our needs, we should
consider it done, because He said it, He will do it.
2 Corinthians 1:20 “For no matter how many
promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.
And so through him the ‘Amen’ us spoken by us to
the glory of God.”

Jesus said “yes” to the promises
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who
are weary and burdened, and I will give
you rest.”

kapahingahan.”)
Jesus said “yes” to the promises
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find; knock and the door will be
opened to you. For everyone who asks receives;
he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the
door will be opened.”

(“Humingi kayo at kayo’y bibigyan; humanap

kayo at kayo’y makakatagpo; kumatok kayo at
kayo’y pagbubuksan. Sapagkat ang bawat
humihingi ay tatanggap; at ang bawat kumakatok
at pagbubuksan.”)
3. HAVE A BOOK OF
DREAMS
Write down your prayer requests.
Include the date you started praying for each miracle, and
the date you received it.
Take pictures of what you desire and paste it in your
book.
1 John 5:14 “This is the confidence we have in
approaching God: that if we ask anything according to
his will, he hears us.”
