All action verbs will have the –ING
She spent 5 hours shopping for shoes. We miss going to HH.

Phrasal verbs are 2 word verbs that have a preposition.(up,on,etc)


Principal rule: All verbs after a preposition are in the gerund(ing)
We will keep on taking classes online. I plan on visiting Alaska.
The action verb always has the infinitive “to”
Is she offering to help me? They have agreed to watch Netflix.

All action verbs can be used in the “-ing” or with infinitive “to”
The definition is the same.
I love to eat pizza. = I love eating pizza.
Did he begin to cry? = Did he begin crying?

Only 3 verbs have a totally different definition with the infinitive “to”
or with the gerund (ing)

He was walking and stopped to smoke. = he was walking and


stopped to smoke (began to smoke “another action”)

He was walking and stopped smoking. = he was walking and


stopped smoking (turned off his cigarrette.)
She remembers going to class. = in the past.
She remembers to go to class. = at that specific(now) moment.

The students tried to finish their homework. = they had the intention
to finish
The students tried finishing their homework. = they were actually
doing the action.
