    Would is a modal verb used to talk about hypothetical or polite situations. It is used in the second conditional and does not change form for third person plural. Would is used to create conditional verb endings like -ría. It is also used to politely ask for something or invite someone to do something. Would rather expresses preference between two options, such as "I'd rather have meetings in the mornings." Would maintains the same verb form after it and is not followed by "to."

    MODAL VERB-WOULD

    WOULD:
    It is an auxiliary or modal verb used in English to speak about
    hypothetical situations in affirmative, negative and interrogative,
    regularly in the second conditional in English too.

    What it means and what it’s used for?


    Well, literally the word "would" means nothing. HOWEVER, it is
    used to create the endings-ria (correría), -rías (saltarías), -ríamos
    (reiríamos), -rías (dormirías) and -irías (reirías).
    WHEN TO USE IT?
    It’s used when we want to be polite about asking someone for something or inviting
    someone to do something. When accompanied by the verb to like is usually
    translated by would, would, would like, etc.
    • I would like the crab cakes.
    • Sounds good. Would you like anything else with that?
    • Yes, I’d like the side salad. Thanks.
    How do you use it?
    Would is a modal verb, and therefore does not change for the third person of the
    plural (I would, She would...) and the verb that follows it always goes without to.
    STRUCTURE:
    • AFFIRMATIVE:
    • SUB+ WOULD +VERB + COMPLEMENT
    • He would play soccer.
    • NEGATIVE:
    • SUB+ WOULD + NOT + VERB + COMPLEMENT
    • She would not play soccer
    • She wouldn´t play soccer
    • INTERROGATIVE:
    • WOULD + SUB +VERB + COMPLEMENT?

    WOULD RATHER
    • Would rather is an expression that indicates that you have two or more
    options and you prefer one of them.Estructure:

    Nota: “Would rather like” no es lo mismo que “would rather”. “I would rather like”
    significa “Me gustaría mucho”. No expresa preferencia y tiene un uso similar a "quite"
    [kuait] bastante. No obstante, -creo- que esta expresión es más británica que americana.
    •Affirmative:
    • Sub + would rather + verb + complement
    • I’d rather have meetings in the mornings
    • Prefiero tener reuniones por las mañanas.
    • She would rather buy a big house
    • You would rather work in a mall
    • We would rather run very early
    NEGATIVE:
    • Sub + would rather + not + verb + complement
    • I would rather not have meetings in the mornings
    •  Prefiero no tener reuniones por las mañanas.
    • ´you would rather not sleep in her house
