Introduction:
• The pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh is one of the most developed technology sectors
within Bangladesh. Manufacturers produce insulin, hormones, and cancer drugs. This sector
provides 97% of the total medicinal requirement of the local market. The industry also exports
medicines to global markets, including Europe. Pharmaceutical companies are expanding their
business with the aim to expand the export market.
• The Pharmaceutical sector of Bangladesh has been transforming and evolving since the early 80s.
The sector has grown from strength to strength over the last 4 decades. Pharmaceutical industry is
one of the fast growing and ever changing market in the sector.
• The modern pharmaceutical industry is dated back to 19th century when first wholesale pharma
products were sold. Since then the industry is getting popularity day by day and is one of the most
important aspects of economy in the world.
General Pharmaceutical Limited
History:
 General Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GPL) is incorporated as Private Limited Company on the 5th day of April, 1984. Dr.
Momenul Haq, Managing Director, Dr. Gazi Nurun Nabi, was Director. They were friends and classmates since their
boyhood. M/S. General Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GPL) stepped into manufacturing of drugs during 1987 with initial 7
products and minimum manpower. Now there are nearly 3000 employees in GPL inclusive of around 2000 Sales &
Marketing Force. The distribution network is spread all over Bangladesh with 600 distributions workers.
 General Pharmaceuticals Ltd (GPL) has stepped into 33th Years of its Excellence in 2020 with lots of inspiration from
previous successful years. We are immensely pleased to announce that GPL has started its production in 2011 at the state-
of-the-art factory (Unit 2) which is build in compliance with cGMP standards, where people are protected by assuring the
highest quality of the products and environment.
 The state-of-the-art factory is having the most modern ophthalmic & parenteral production facilities, dedicated steroidal
& non-steroidal facilities, high tech heating ventilation & air conditioning system (HVAC), SVP & LVP (including
Amino Acid) production facilities, effluent treatment plant & incineration process for waste management.
 Total site area is 29,792 Sqm & building foot print is 14,444 Sqm. The site master plan has been developed by APC,
Australia. The state-of-the-art factory is in compliance with UK MHRA, EU-GMP, TGA, ICH, PIC/S.
 Now GPL is able to export pharmaceutical products into the regulated countries like North America, South America,
European countries and Middle East, etc. and meeting the local demands.

Dhaka in Kaliyakair, Gazipur. Now the company has extended their manufacturing facility is located 48 miles

• dedicated steroid & Non-steroid pharmaceuticals facilities in Bangladesh.
