ACTIVITY / SEATWORK

#2
BASIC ELECTRONICS
Circuit Breakers

A circuit breaker is an electrical

switch designed to protect an
electrical circuit from damage
caused by overcurrent/overload
or short circuit. Its basic
function is to interrupt current
flow after protective relays
detect a fault.
Encapsulated
Transformers

Encapsulated Transformers are

simply transformers in which
one or more of the transformer's
components are completely
sealed. One example of a
component is the transformer's
coils. This process of
encapsulation protects the
transformer from dirt, dust,
moisture, and any other
contaminants.
Fuse

A fuse is a device that shuts off

the power to an electrical
circuit when too much electric
current flows through it. ... A
fuse is made as an intentional
weak spot in a circuit that will
melt (or "blow") when too
much current is flowing
through it, shutting off the
power to the rest of the circuit.
Microcontroller

Microcontroller is a compressed
micro computer manufactured
to control the functions of
embedded systems in office
machines, robots, home
appliances, motor vehicles, and
a number of other gadgets. A
microcontroller is comprises
components like - memory,
peripherals and most
importantly a processor.
Processor

A processor (CPU) is the logic

circuitry that responds to and
processes the basic instructions
that drive a computer. The CPU
is seen as the main and most
crucial integrated circuitry (IC)
chip in a computer, as it is
responsible for interpreting
most of computers commands.
Relay

A relay is an electrically
operated switch. They
commonly use an
electromagnet (coil) to operate
their internal mechanical
switching mechanism
(contacts). When a relay contact
is open, this will switch power
ON for a circuit when the coil
is activated.
Sensor

A sensor is a device that

measures physical input from
its environment and converts it
into data that can be interpreted
by either a human or a machine.
Most sensors are electronic (the
data is converted into electronic
data), but some are more
simple, such as a glass
thermometer, which presents
visual data.
Terminal and
Connectors

Connectors are used to join

subsections of circuits together.
Usually, a connector is used
where it may be desirable to
disconnect the subsections at
some future time: power inputs,
peripheral connections, or
boards which may need to be
replaced.
Transducer

A transducer is an electronic
device that converts energy
from one form to another.
Common examples include
microphones, loudspeakers,
thermometers, position and
pressure sensors, and antenna.
Wire

A wire is a long thin piece of

metal that is used to fasten
things or to carry electric
current.
