Introduction to the project
▰ Fins are the extended surfaces that are linked to any surface in order to
increase the rate of heat transfer from that surface. These are used when
the available surface is found inadequate to transfer the required quantity
of heat with the available temperature drop and convective heat transfer
coefficient.
▰ A fin accommodates energy transfer by conduction within its boundaries,
while its exposed surfaces transfer energy to the surroundings by
convection or radiation or both.
▰ A plain fin may increases the surface area but a special shape extended
surface may increase heat transfer coefficient in addition to the heat
exchanger.
Assumptions
The analytical expressions given for these profiles are based on the following assumptions:
▰ The heat conduction in the fin is steady and one dimensional.
▰ The fin material is homogeneous and isotropic.
▰ There is no energy generation in the fin.
▰ The convective environment is characterized by a uniform and constant heat transfer coefficient and temperatures.
▰ The fin has a constant thermal conductivity.
▰ The contact between the base of the fin and the primary surface is perfect.
▰ The fin has a constant base temperature.
Analysis of Aluminium alloy:
▰ Figure shows that the maximum heat flux value ▰ Figure shows that maximum value of temperature is
1.3359 (W/mm2) for Rectangular fin of Al alloy. 564.4 K and minimum temperature is 330.33 K.
Analysis of Magnesium alloy:
▰ Figure shows that the maximum value of ▰ Figure shows that maximum value of
heat flux is 1.8099 (W/mm2) inside the temperature is 626.71 K and minimum
Rectangular fin of Mg alloy. temperature is 338.97 K.
Work direction
▰ We are going to carry out the similar analysis for even more shapes like Circular, Triangular and Parabolic
fins and will see which fin provides the best efficiency.
▰ After carrying out the analysis of all shapes, we’re going to see how our analysis compares to the existing
researches in the same field and which shape provides maximum heat dissipation and which material is
more suitable to be used.
