AUTOCLAVED AERATED

CONCRETE BLOCK
Early history of AAC is based on a series
of process patents
• 1880 - AAC history started when steam curing process was invented
and granted its patent by German researcher Michaelis

• 1889 - The lightness of AAC was discovered by Czech Hoffman after

successfully tested and patented the method of "aerating" the concrete
by carbon dioxide

• 1923 - AAC process was perfected at Royal Technical Institute in

Stockholm, Sweden by Arch. Dr. Johan Eriksson along with Prof. Henrik
Kreuger

• 1924 - Process was granted its patent

• 1929 First production of AAC was in Yxhult, a small town in Sweden

which was later changed to Ytong for easier pronunciation

706.2.8 Loads on Nonbearing Walls

Masonry walls used as interior partitions or as exterior

surfaces of a building which do not carry vertical loads
imposed by other elements of the building shall be designed
to carry their own weight plus any superimposed finish and
lateral forces. Bonding or anchorage of nonbearing walls
shall be adequate to support the walls and to transfer lateral
forces to the supporting elements.

Cost-Saving
Cost Savings

• Cost Benefits : Reduction in dead weight leading

to savings in steel & concrete.

• Faster Construction: It reduces construction time by

20%. As blocks are lighter, it makes construction easier
& faster .

• Workability of AAC helps eliminate waste on the

jobsite.

Cost-Saving Benefit
Conclusion:

Cost of construction reduces by up to 20% as reduction of dead load of wall

on beam makes comparatively lighter members.

As both sides face of AAC wall are plane, thickness of skimcoat is very less
and so there is a substantial reduction up to 50% in requirement of
cement, sand, for plaster works.

Cost Savings

• Energy Savings: Approximately 30% for heating &

cooling because of low thermal conductivity value
compared to conventional wall system.

• Low Maintenance: AAC reduces the operating cost

of 30-40%.

• Eco-friendly: Decrease of 50% greenhouse gas

emissions and reduces 30% environmental waste.

LSB FIRE RESISTANCE
An actual proof that LS blocks has high resistant
to fire, if not fire proof, is during the recent fire in
Cebu City. A 6-storey school building located in
Guadalupe Cebu City was ablazed last Friday Jan.
17, 2020. The fire broke out at the 3rd floor. All
walls in that level were damaged and collapsed
except for LIGHTSTRONG wall.
