Longinus’ conversion and martyrdom.

PANUNULAYAN
The Tagalog version of the Mexican Las Posadas,
and literally means “seeking passage”. Held during
Christmas time but especially on Christmas Eve, it
depicts Joseph and Mary’ search for a room at the
inn in Bethlehem.

The actors playing the Holy Couple chant their
pleas for lodging in slow, mournful tones, while
the innkeepers and householders would drive
them away with haughty verses sang in the dance-
like meter.

BANGA
Filipino dances varies in influence and region. One
of the famous dances is "banga" which illustrates
the grace and strength of women in kalinga. This is
performed while balancing a heavy pot on the head.

LUMAGEN
Lumagen or Tachok is performed to
celebrate happy occassions. This dance
symbolizes flying birds and is matched
with the beat of the gongs.
“
SALISID
Salisid is the dance of courtship,
presented by male and female
imitating a rooster attracting a hen.
“
TINIKLING
The tinikling is a pre-Spanish dance from the
Philippines that involves two people beating, tapping,
and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against
each other in coordination with one or more dancers
who step over and in between the poles in a dance.
“
BINUSUAN
A folk dance that originated in Bayambang,
Pangasinan,. The word “binasuan” means
“with the use of drinking glasses.”
“
The dancers balance glasses on their heads
and in their hands as they move. The glasses
are filled with rice wine, which makes any
misstep a messy mistake. People dance
binasuan at weddings and festivals.
