DEFINITION
Did you know what is descriptive text?
Descriptive text is a type of text
which gives description about
an object (living or non—living
things) such as person, place,
animal, or things specifically.

The aim of writing descriptive text
Social Function
To describe, represnt or reveal a particular person, place, things, or
animal either abstract or concrete in a specific form.

▫ Identification
The statement that consist of one topic to be described in
the whole text
▫ Description
Gives details information/description about the object
which is identified in identification in the form of parts,
qualities, or/and characteristics

on specific participant, uses of
attributes, declarative sentence,
simple present tense, present
passive voice, adjective, state
verb, adverb, figurative.

LANGUAGE FEATURES

 Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one).
For example: Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Orlando.
 Adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun.
For example: a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in jepara,
etc.
 Simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it
tells the fact of the object described.
For example: Borobudur is one of historical buildings in Indonesia.
 Action verb: verbs that show an activity.
For example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc.

Formula:

Example : Borobudur +is+ one of
historical buildings +in Indonesia
S (I/You/We/They) + V1 + O + Adv
Example : You + place + your hand
+ into the stupa through one of its

Example : It + is + hole + can touch
the Buddha statue

Formula:

Example : There’s a dome located
Passive : O + is/am/are + V3 + by

Example : The temple+ is+
surrounded +by + 72 Buddha statue+
each seated inside a perforated stupa.

LANGUAGE FEATURES

 Declarative sentence : a sentence that makes a statement, provides a fact,


offers an explanation, or conveys information
For example: Niels Bohr was born in Copenhagen on October 7, 1885
 State verb: in the form of descriptive narration, the use of state verb is remain
useful. Because it help the writer to interpret the whole situation of the story.
For example: think, believe, have, belong, love, hate, and etc
 Figurative : kind of sentence used to describe the subject such metaphor, simile.
For example : John’s skin is white as chalk….
 Adverb: in the form of descriptive text, adverb is used to as part of sentence or
paragraph.
For example: loudly, fluently, carelessly, fast, and etc
