ZF ADM 2: Pneumatic components

The following pneumatic components must be installed but will be not delivered from ZF
 Check valve: the check valve separates the ADM pneumatic-
systems from other pneumatic-devices, (in case of air leakages
in the other pneumatic systems)
 Air tank: air reserve for activation of the locks (Volume: min. 5l)
 Distribution block: to distribute the air from the air main supply
line to each 3/2 way valve
 3/2-way valve: to control the air flow
– Transfer case (1 valve): The 3/2-way valve has two position, the basic
position (no electric supply on the coil) the lock is deactivated (the air is
exhausted). With electric supply (24V) on the coil (controlled from the
ADM-ECU) the 3/2-way valve shifts to the second position. In this
position the air flows to the cylinder inside the TC and activates the lock.
– CK center drives (6 valves): The 3/2-way valve has two position, the
basic position (no electric supply on the coil) the lock is deactivated (air
flows to the cylinder inside the APE axle components). With electric
supply (24V) on the coil (controlled from the ADM-ECU) the 3/2-way
valve shifts to the second position. In this position the air exhausts.

 Air pressure switch: checks the status of the current air

pressure. The min. allowed air pressure is 5,8bar

ZF ADM 2: Electric and electronic components

The following electric and electronic components must be installed but will be not delivered from ZF
 Operation mode switch: Mode of the ADM can be switched between
“Off”, “Automatic” and “Manual” (3 Position switch installed in the
driver cabin)
 Steering angle sensor: The signal of the steering angle should be
transmit via CAN (SAS message). The steering wheel angle range
counter type should be absolute. The place of the installation should
be on the front axle, with a mechanical connection to the axle.
 CAN-Connection: The CAN-Bus (acc. Norm SAE J1939, 250kB)
connects the ADM ECU to other devices in the vehicle. The table on
the right side shows the signals which should be provided from the
other CAN devices.
 Usually the following control units transmit the messages
– ABS control unit transmit: EBC1; HRW1
– Engine control unit transmit: EEC1; EEC2; CCVS
– Transmission control unit transmit: ETC1; ETC2
– Retarder control unit: ERC1
– Vehicle board control unit: SAS; Proprietary

ZF ADM 2: Information to the electric circuit diagram

General information to the electric circuit diagram
 Operation mode switch: Mode of the ADM can be switched
between “Off”, “Automatic” and “Manual” (3 Position switch
installed in the driver cabin)
 Air pressure switch: Checks the status of the current air
pressure. The min. allowed air pressure is 5,8bar
 Indication switches: The indication switches of the lock status
is directly connected to ZF ADM2 control unit. The status can
be transmitted to the vehicle CAN, to show it at an driver
display

ZF ADM 2: Information to the electric circuit diagram

General information to the electric circuit diagram
 CAN-Connection: Connection to the vehicle CAN-Bus (to reduce
disturbances on the CAN wiring, the wires must be twisted).
 Speed sensor: to reduce the effort for the ABS-system, only 4 of the
wheel speed sensors are connected to the ABS-control unit and will
be transmitted via CAN (HRW1). The other 4 wheel speed sensors
are directly connected to the ZF ADM2 control unit. (to reduce
disturbances the connection cables of the speed sensor must be
twisted).
 3/2-way valve: Each valve coil (max. current: 1.3A) is connected to a
separate output, with this is a maximal flexible activation of the locks
is possible.
 Diagnostic: For a simple diagnostic in case of problems, a separate
diagnostic plug must be mounted. The ZF diagnosis program “ZF-
TESTMAN” can be used for diagnostic.
