A cylinder has a radius (r) and a

height (h) (see picture below).

This shape is similar to a soda

can. Each cylinder has a radius
and height as you can see in the
diagram below.

Cylinder Volume Formula

Example:
What is the volume of the cylinder with a radius of
2 and a height of 6?

Use the formula for the

volume of a cylinder as
shown below.

Volume = Π *(r)^2 (h)

Volume = Π *(2)^2 (6)
= 24 Π

What is the volume of the cylinder with a radius of

3 and a height of 5?

Use the formula for the volume

of a cylinder as shown below.

Volume = Π *(r)2 (h)

Volume = Π *(3)2 (5)
= 45 Π
What is the area of the cylinder with a radius of 6
and a height of 7?

Use the area of a cylinder formula.

Volume = Π *(r)2 (h)

Volume = Π *(6)2 (7)
= 252 Π

Let us try!
1. What is the;
a. volume of the cylinder with a radius of 4 and a height
of 8?
b. area of the cylinder with a radius of and a height of 5
and a height of 7? ?

2. What is the;
a. volume of the cylinder with a radius of 6 and a height
of 9?
b. area of the cylinder with a radius of and a height of 8
and a height of 10??
