It is the first paragraph of the essay.

It begins the
essay and has two parts: general statements and
the thesis statement.
General statements give the reader general
information about the topic of the essay. Write at
least 2 or 3 general statements in an introduction.
 After the general statements, write the
thesis statement which is the last sentence
in the introduction.
 The thesis stament introduces the main idea
of the essay.
 The thesis statement;

 states the main topic of the essay.

 lists the subtopics of the main topic.
 is the last sentence of the introduction.
Entering a university is a very important
and interesting experience in a person’s life.
At the same time it is an experience that will
change your lifestyle and personality forever.
It can be terrifying at first, but with a little bit
effort, it can become one of the greatest
experiences of our lives. Entering a university
has two major effects on a person which are
missing old friends, and developing
responsible behavior.
 The body of the essay is made up of 2 or 3
paragraphs.
 In each paragraph, start with a topic
sentence that gives the main idea of the
paragraph and write down the supporting
sentences for the idea.
 Concluding sentence is not obligatory.
Supporting Paragraph 1
The first and also the most common
effect of entering a university is that once you
enter the new school, you start missing your
old friends. There are many reasons you and
your friends start splitting apart and leaving to
study in different cities or schools, but feeling
sad because you miss them is inevitable. This
doesn’t mean you are never going to see your
friends again, but it isn’t the same to be at
school without your best friends.
Supporting Paragraph 2
The second effect of entering a university
is the responsible behavior that you must
develop during your way through the university.
Entering a university forces you to be a
responsible person because you are the only one
who will care about you. During university
studies you are in charge of your life and of the
decisions that you make such as doing or not
doing homework, going or not going to class, etc.
Being a responsible person is essential for anyone
in this world; without responsibility a person’s
life can be a mess and will never reach success.
 The conclusion is the last part of essay. It
does three things:
1. It signals the end of essay.
2. It summarizes the main points. You can
repeat the thesis statement in different
words. You may use some signal words in
brief, in short, to sum up or in conclusion.
3. It gives the writer’s final thoughts,
comments on the subjects. You can make a
judgement or give a recommendation.
In conclusion, entering a university, as
everything that is new in our lives, can be
terrifying at first, but with a little bit of
effort, it can become one of the greatest
experiences of our lives. It is very important
to enjoy our university studies while trying to
get adapted to university life away from old
friends. It will definitely help us become
independent and responsible people, only if
we learn how to survive it.
