Background

The Ghana Empire was a west


African empire based in modern-day
southeast Mauritania and western
Mali.
Government

Ancient Ghana had a feudal


government that had kings
that were rulers of territorial
units often called kafu.
Dinga cisse

Dinga cisse became the first Ghana


(warrior king) and his clan became
the rulers of the new state. Even in
current day politics the cisse name
is prominent in politics in Mali and
Mauritania.
Culture

There was an influence of


Islam in ancient ghana and
was influenced throughout
northwest africa.
Trade

Ghana was known for trading lots


of goods like gold and salt but
traded many other things. Some
things they traded were ivory,
slaves, cloth, weapons, and books.
