MOTIVATION
• In underground mine, ventilation systems are critical to supply adequate oxygen,
keeping up non-dangerous and non-lethal environments and an effective working
mine. To monitor an underground mine, can help killing high hazard environments.
• Mine accidents can have a variety of causes, including leaks of poisonous gases such
as hydrogen sulphide or explosive natural gases, especially firedamp or methane,
dust explosions, collapsing of mine stopes, toxic gases arising from mine fires,
mining-induced seismicity, flooding, or general mechanical errors from improperly
used or malfunctioning mining equipment.
OBJECTIVE
Problem Statement
Zigbee based intelligent smart helmet for coal miners safety purpose
This paper focuses on a mine supervising system which is based on the cost effective IOT (ZigBee) system.
This project aims at developing a sensor networks, realized real-time surveillance with early-warning
intelligence on harmful gases, temperature, humidity in mining area and used ZigBee communication to
reduce potential safety problems in coal production using a ZigBee technology. All these three parameters
are detected continuously by temperature sensor, gas sensor, humidity sensor and if they cross the pre-
defined limit, then the user gets information about all three sensors and it displays on thing speaks site as
the graphs and it will automatically update the values to this site. With a Zigbee positioning devices the
system might be easily extended. The values of different sensors are continuously transmitted by ZigBee
transmitter to the remote monitoring unit which are received by Thingspeak site through IP address.
LITERATURE SURVEY

S
• A prototype of smart helmet is developed to detect various types of dangerous event
such as air quality, temperature and presence of humidity more than the advisable
levels and send this dangerous event information towards the monitoring section
which provides rescue operation for the miner.
• And we get a messages on LCD screen about the surrounding atmosphere and to
phones of which were coded in Arduino using GSM module.

CONCLUSION
As the system requirement and the required components can be easily made
available and this project can be implemented easily. It will provide safety to coal
miners and change the way of their working, as well as system controlling the
various environmental changes in mines. It is reliable system with quick response
and easy installation.
The system might be easily extended. It will improve system stability and extend
accurate position of underground miners in the future. The designed Arduino based
smart helmet is light in weight, makes it portable. The all sensors are able to work
under drastically changing environmental conditions.
FUTURE
SCOPE
•
•
In future using additional sensors all possible safety issues could be monitored such as dust, vibration,
water leakage etc. Also we improve the data transmission distance.
The RF technology could be a low price technology compared to alternative communication systems.
The system may be increased by increasing the signal strength by inserting an extra antenna
• System is also raised by adding live equipments to measure the center beat rate, rate and force per unit
area. In future work, smart helmet-based personal PWS can be expanded by adding sensors to the
Arduino board. For example, a heart rate sensor or an alcohol sensor can be added to check the
condition of the worker. Furthermore, by adding a temperature, humidity, methane gas, and carbon
monoxide sensor, the environment at the mine site can be monitored, and when a high concentration of
harmful gases is detected, the pedestrian worker can be warned of danger.
