Introduction

to IELTS
What is IELTS?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It has been
developed to test your full range of English skills required to:
1. Study in an English speaking nation, and
2. For Immigration purposes.
It is conducted by the British Council, UK & IDP, Australia. The test pattern
and assessment criteria is in accordance with Cambridge Assessment English.
Purpose of IELTS test

• Academic (Higher Studies)

• General Training (Permanent Residency)


Skills tested in IELTS

• Listening

• Reading

• Writing

• Speaking
Medium of taking the Test

• Handwritten

• Computer delivered

Speaking is taken one-to-one (common for both)


IELTS Exam Guidelines
 The marking is in bands from 1-9. There is no pass or fail system.

 The test is taken on 2 separate days – one for Listening, Reading &

Writing and another for Speaking.


 The duration of the test is 2½ hours for LRW & 15 minutes for Speaking.

 The scores are valid for a period of 2 years from the date of your test.

 The exam fee from 1st April 2020 is Rs.14,000/-

 The Results take 7 days for the Computer delivered test and 13 days for the

Handwritten test.
Listening
The IELTS Listening test is common for Audio:
