The document discusses a rail guided vehicle (RGV) transportation system. The RGV system uses self-driven wheeled trolleys that are guided along a slotted track and can be independently controlled. Each trolley has its own battery-powered motor and controller. The RGV system offers flexible transportation of parts between stations with easy configuration and maintenance of the modular design. Safety features ensure obstacle detection and emergency stopping.

Rail guided Vehicle
Modular and reconfigurable, FlexTrolley ARGV System(TM)
combines precision of chain conveyor with independent control of AGV. Each part is fixtured and mounted on self- driven wheeled trolley, guided along slotted track on floor, which runs between stations on line. Full 360° access along horizontal plane allows operators to move freely around trolleys. Each trolley is driven by high-speed electric motor, powered by onboard battery. Speeds up to 24 m/min can be attained. Specifications • Rail Guided Vehicle (RGV) is a flexible transportation vehicle developed by SMC's own technology. It can link multiple destinations, and be a good and economic alternative of conveyor by its characteristic that it can eliminate complex and fixed layout of conveyors, which enables simple and easily maintainable transportation system. In a system multiple vehicles can be operated according to the transportation requirement. • RGV system constitutes of transportation rail, vehicles and controller. RGV rail can be installed linear or circular. • RGV is controlled by distribution control system and can be expanded easily as the system parameter changes. This characteristic cannot be obtained in normal conveyor system. Characteristics of RGV • Independent operation of vehicle by individual controller on each vehicle • Low noise and vibration • Modular design of drive unit to enable less parts and easy maintenance • Relatively accurate positioning by encoder • Distribution control system Safety Features of RGV • In case an obstacle is detected at the front, the vehicle reduces its speed and if the distance is less than 60 mm, it stops. • Soft bumper is installed at the front end. The vehicle stops at touch of this bumper and it can be used as an emergency switch. • If the load is not at its correct position, the vehicle does not move and generates abnormal sign. • If the stop position is not correct, the vehicle re-tries the positioning. • In case of motor overload, thermal relay is actuated and the vehicle does not move and produce abnormal sign. Features of RGV Controller • Communication with upper level controller: receiving commands and sending reports • Operation management • Real-time check of the vehicles status • Error report on the controller display; error position, cause • Data storage for the maintenance • RGV work scheduling • Emergency stop • Operator interface using touch screen and GUI (Graphic User Interface) • Independent operation control in case of upper controller failure • Teaching operation • Easy extension RGV Control System • Trolleymation is the route for communication between stationary controller and on-vehicle controller of RGV. It uses trolley duct. The characteristics of Trolleymation are as follows: • One trolley line used as power and information transmission simultaneously • Fast and long distance transmission • Reliable data transmission using high noise margin • RS-232C interface with system device • Up to 16 terminal units linked to one line • Used as derailment detector
