CV/Resume

• A resume is a structured, written summary of a person’s


education, employment background and job
qualifications.
• An outline of someone’s personal, educational and
professional history, experience and skills.

Definition
• Resume is a form of advertising, designed to help you get
an interview.
• As in all forms of advertising , your objective is to call
attention to your best features and downplay your
disadvantages, without distorting or misrepresenting the
facts.
• Is very important as, it is the FIRST IMPRESSION that
an employer gets of your personality.
• Usually of one or two pages.

Purpose
• That a candidate thinks in terms of results.
• Knows how to get things done.
• Is well-rounded.
• Shows signs of progress.
• Has personal standards of excellence.
• Is flexible and willing to try new things.
• Possesses strong communication skills.

 Use a title or your name and address as a heading.


 List your name, address, area code, and contact details.

1- Title or Heading
• Two to five sentence summary of your area of expertise
and career interest.

• Two schools of thought

a) Your objective will be obvious from your qualification. It


can be counter productive because it labels you as being
interested in only one thing.

b) Employers will undoubtedly categorize you, so attach the


right label first.

2- Career Objective
• Be as specific as possible about what you want to do.
• Avoid generalized statements or what a company can do
for you.
• “ A position allowing me to utilize my knowledge and
expertize in different areas.”
• SPECIFIC
• “A position which allows me to apply my background in
computer engineering and high performance relating to
software technology.”
• Effectiveness can be increased by including words that
show long term interest.
• Also, by including words that emphasize your major
qualification of the work.
• If education is your strongest point, discuss it thoroughly
and highlight it visually.
• You can give headings like ‘Education”, “Professional
College Training”, or “Academic Preparation”.
• Begin with the highest level of educational achievements,
include information such as, university attended, degrees
earned, major honors, grades, average date of program
completion, off-campus training sponsored by business,
industry or govt.

Name and location of the employer.


What the organization does(if not clear from the name).
Your functional title.
How long you served there.
Your duties and responsibilities.
Your significant achievements or contribution.
Quantify your accomplishments whenever possible.
Devote most space to the jobs that relate to your target
position.

• Include miscellaneous facts that relate to your career
objective

Good communication skills
Command over other languages
Related Certifications or Courses

Skills
• These are other prominent aspects of your personality

 Reading books/Newspapers

 Speeches/Debates

 Should also describe any volunteer activities that demonstrate


your abilities---speaking, writing, touring experience,
participation in creative projects or community services.

 Job related interests, hobbies

6-Activities/Interests
• Highly optional

Includes bio-data details

7-Personal Data
• Can be given on request.
• Should be of professional people, associates or high
ranking related people.

8-References
1- CHRONOLOGICAL RESUME

 Traditional type.
 Person’s employment + educational history is listed in
sequence.
Reverse order, starting with most recent order.
