LRTT 2

TOPIC 1: Sharing of Research Experiences

Sample Questions:
1. What happen when you were conducting the
research?
2. What did you feel about the research?
3. What did you feel about the data being gathered?
4. What was happening to you as a person while you
were conducting the research?
5. What did you discover as your strength or
weakness?
6. What problems did you encounter when you were
doing the research? How did you handle these?
1Peter 3:13-17.Who indeed can harm you if you
are committed deeply to doing what is right?
Even if you should have to suffer for justice’
sake, happy you will be. Fear not and do not
stand in awe of what this people fears.”
Venerate the Lord, that is, Christ, in your
hearts. Should anyone ask you the reason for
this hope of yours, be ever ready to reply,
but speak gently and respectfully. Keep your
conscience clear, so that whenever you are
defamed, those who libel your way of life in
Christ may be shamed. If it should be God’s
will that you suffer, it is better to do so for
good deeds than for evil ones.
Topic 2: Data Collation
Guidelines for collating data:
1. Before counting of the responses, make sure
that all responses under one data item are
using or have been converted into one
standard.
2. Categorize properly the responses per block
of data. (No responses should be ignored)
3. Avoid ambiguous categories.
4. For quantitative data, make sure that
bracketing of data is done properly.
e.g. data on age of mothers
40-44
35-39
30-34
25-29
20-24
15-19
5. For open ended questions, group
similar responses together and label
properly.
6. Always check the total number of responses under
each block of data.
7. To avoid confusion when matching the collated
number of responses with the total number of
respondents, count also those respondents whose
replies are “no answer “or “not applicable.”
8. A percentage is the value of one thing in relation to
a hundred. It represents the proportion of a specific
responses to the total number of respondents. The
percentage is computed only when the local
researchers themselves think that in can help in better
understanding the significance of differences in
responses per category.
Data such as:

Number
FAMILIES WITH WATER 52
SEALED TOILETS
FAMILIES WITH PIT PRIVY 47
FAMILIES WITHOUT TOILETS 68
TOTAL NUMBER FAMILIES 167
SURVEYED

Is there any significance to you?

Formula:
Number of Respondents x 100%
Total respondents of population

E.g. 52/167 x 100%=31%

47/167 x 100%=28%
68/167 x 100%=41%
No. %
FAMILIES WITH WATER SEALED 52 31%
TOILETS

FAMILIES WITH PIT PRIVY 47 28%

FAMILIES WITHOUT TOILETS 68 41%

TOTAL NUMBER FAMILIES SURVEYED 167 100%

Puzzle Story
Make a story about the picture and be
creative.
One participant should start a story and the
next participant should be able to connect
the story-telling process.
One must present a story related to that of the
first volunteer or participant.
TOPIC 3: DATA - ANALYSIS
1. Make critical observations on
the collated data in terms of
trends, relationships and
consistency.
2. Facilitate a lively discussion
on what factors maybe
attributed the situation as
presented by data, and / or their
effects on the lives of the
people.
3. Help the local researchers
relate the present data
describing their community
situation to broader situations
or contexts.
4. Facilitate the identification of
recommendations for action to
improve the community
situation.

Data Synthesis
“Hula-Bira”

-- Divide into 2 groups

Each group will form an object/situation
using only the body of the members.

- The first one to perform is determined by

tossing a coin.

- In a count of ten the participants must

freeze or take a stationary position.

- The other group must correctly guess the

object or situation depicted to earn a point.

-- Each group has 3 turns.

The first to score 3 wins.

TOPIC 5: DATA - PRESENTATION
In CO-PAR, research results are
presented back to the community
in what is known as RESEARCH
CONSULTATION. Through this,
the research becomes truly the
property of the people because
they gain the opportunity to
validate the data versus their own
reality, and to decide on courses of
actions to improve that reality.
Given the significance of the data
presentation, the local researchers then
need to be creative in their methods of
presentations.
Solicit from the participants how they think
the research data can best be presented to
the community. Ask them to share their
own successful experiences in sharing
vital information to a big group of people.
Methods of data presentation:
1. Bar Graph
2. Pie Chart
3. Line Graph
4. Pictograms
5. Song / Poem
6. Dance
7. Community Theater
8. Puppetry
9. Maps
TOPIC 6: DATA - VALIDATION
It is the process of authenticating and
substantiating data taken from the
community by involving the same
community itself. It aims at checking
the accuracy of the data, and at
enriching the data by providing the
people the opportunity to collectively
analyze the research results and to
add their own experiences and
perspectives
TOPIC 7: PRIORITIZING & ACTION PLANNING
Game: Form your line according to….
Why prioritize the recommendation?
What are the bases for prioritizing the
recommendations?
1. Nature of the problem the recommendation seeks
to address. MOST URGENT AND IMPORTANT
2. Urgency and Do – Ability of Recommendation,

THE PROCESS OF DECIDING ON WHAT COURSES OF ACTION

TO TAKE MAYBE DONE THROUGH COMMUNITY
CONSENSUS OR THROUGH MAJORITY VOTES.
TOPIC 8: RESEARCH CONSULTATION
OBJECTIVES OF A RESEACH CONSULTATION

1. Get a synthesis of the research finding

done by their LR;
2. Validate the data presented to them by
citing their own experiences in pointing
what are accurate and what are not:
3. Decide on the courses of action to take to
improve their community situation;
4. Prioritize these courses of action, if
necessary

Continuation:

5. Set immediate goals and the

corresponding general action plan
for research goal;
6. Select from among them the
members of the Local Planning
Team;
7. Appreciate and recognize the
efforts extended by their volunteer
local researchers towards solving
community problems.
TOPIC 9: REFLECTION ON THE RESEARCH PHASE
OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH SESSION:

1. Discern their personal strength &

weaknesses in relation to the task
they have just accomplished.
2. Give and receive feedback
regarding the conduct of research.
Consultation;
3. Draw insights and learning from
their experiences in research.
