Manufactured Boards How do manufactured boards help the environment? • The waste from tree felling and timber conversion are used to develop manufactured boards. • Due to this it lessons the need to cut down trees for material which will help conserve trees. • If it wasn’t for manufactured boards, waste such as particles, dust, veneers, chips, and strips would be otherwise going to waste. If these weren’t used to create manufactured boards, more trees would be required to be cut down for wood based products. Plywood
• Plywood is made up of thin layers of
wooden veneers glued together. • Thicknesses can range from 3mm to 35mm • Plywood can be hardwood, softwood or a combination of both • There is an odd number of layers (3,5,7) so the grain on both faces are going in the same direction. Plywood

• Formed using a combination of
synthetic resin and wood fibres. • It is dense and flat material used as an alternative to plywood or chipboard. • MDF does not have layers as it is made up of particles.
