Product designing- is creating a new product that will be sold by a business to its customers. It also refers to the art of creating or projecting the outside over-all appearance and the presence of a product. Packaging- is anything used to as a purpose to attract the attention, to be recognize, for safety and convenience, and other advantages. It includes items such as boxes, trays, crates, containers, tubes, bags, and materials for wrapping. CONTRAST AND HARMONY Contrast is a principle of art that refers to the formation between opposite elements such as light versus dark, rough versus smooth, large versus small and so on. It may enhance the visual experience and excitement. Complimentary colors give a high level of contrast. examples of complementary colors 1) Red and green 2) blue and orange 3) purple and yellow Harmony - refers to how good all the visual elements and working together in a piece of art. It shows the good combination of colors, shapes, value, style, and subject. Value - the darkness or lightness of a color. tints - light value Shades - dark value The Mandala art - an example of piece that shows good combination of pattern and colors. A mandala art that shows harmony in color, shape and line. Modern Technology - used today for better production of printing as well as designing made easy through the help of it. MUSIC Tempo - the rate of speed of the song. - comes from the Latin word “tempus” tempus - meaning time. –They may be ranged from very slow, moderate or fast. - A sad song is usually slow, while happy song is fast. tempo mark - markings that give the singer or instrumentalist an idea on how fast or slow the music should be. common tempo marks: common tempo marks: TLE Importance of Enhancing/Decorating Bamboo and Wood products Finished products tend to be more saleable to customers when enhanced and decorated. Enhanced and decorated finished products help maintain their durability from harsh elements. Finished products that are enhanced or decorated beautify the product itself. Methods of enhancing/decorating bamboo and wood products 1. Woodturning is a process of using a lathe to make various forms and shapes of wood. 2. Hand Carving is considered as woodcraft in which a sharp object is used to create designs on the wood. Tools used: chip carving knife, gouges, and chisels 3. Pyrography – is considered an art using a fire or heat to decorate wood or leather. 4. Flocking technique- lines the interior of drawers and boxers with a soft velvety finish. Flocking is the process of depositing millions of individual cut fiber particles (called “flock”) into the surface of an article for the purpose of increasing the tactile sensation, aesthetics, color and appearance. 5. Inlaying- combines several techniques that involve inserting decorative pieces into a base object to incorporate new designs on the original product 6. Gilding-is considered as a decorative technique in which powder is applied on wood or other materials to give a thin coating of gold. Method of gilding: gluing, chemical gilding, and electroplating. 7. Staining- it is used to color wood to give an illusion of texture. Varieties of staining: Pigment Based Stain color large pores of the wood Dye Based Stain color small pores of the wood 8. Painting – is considered the simplest way of decorating wood since there is a variety of colors that you can choose from. One may also add a lacquer finish to make it more shiny and glossy. Metal craft Enhancing Techniques 1. Engraving- a method of transferring a design on a metal using a hardened steel tool called burin or graver to cut into the surface of the metal. 2. Etching – is a process used to make or pictures on a metal plate by using acid that produces corrosive action. 3. Metal Enhancing Media-such as metal paints, colic markers and antiquing kits give color to the metal product. Metal paints maybe applied using a brush or spray. 4. Texturing and Embossing – in this technique you will need hammers, metal stamps, stencils, and other materials to create imprints on the metal with different textures, a hammer and a nail can still be used to create your own design.
