Plate tectonics
Plate tectonics is a scientific theory that explains how
major landforms are created as a result of Earth's
subterranean movements. The theory, which solidified
in the 1960s, transformed the earth sciences by
explaining many phenomena, including mountain
building events, volcanoes, and earthquakes.
Lava, tephra (volcanic ash, lapilli, or bombs),
Volcanic fragmented rock, and/or volcanic gases may be
emitted. Vents may be located at the summit or
features flanks of a volcano and may exist as elongated
fissures.
• Volcanic eruptions produce three types of
Erupted materials: gas, lava, and fragmented debris
called tephra.
material
• Definition: A volcanic eruption occurs when
magma is released from a volcano. Volcanic
Volcanic eruptions can be quite calm and effusive, or
they can be explosive. Effusive eruptions
activity produce lava flows, while explosive
eruptions produce ash and pyroclastic density
currents. Volcanic Eruption.
• The Decade Volcanoes are 16
volcanoes identified by the
International Association of Volcanology
and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior
(IAVCEI) as being worthy of particular
study in light of their history of large,
Decade destructive eruptions and proximity to
densely populated areas. The Decade
volcanoes Volcanoes project encourages studies
and public-awareness activities at these
volcanoes, with the aim of achieving a
better understanding of the volcanoes
and the dangers they present, and thus
being able to reduce the severity of
natural disasters.
• Volcanoes spew hot, dangerous gases, ash,
lava, and rock that are powerfully
Effects of destructive. People have died from volcanic
blasts. Volcanic eruptions can result in
volcanoes additional threats to health, such as floods,
mudslides, power outages, drinking water
contamination, and wildfires.
Volcanoes on • So far, we know volcanoes are found
on Mercury, Venus, Earth, the Moon, Mars,
other and Jupiter's moon, Io. Right now, active
celestial volcanoes are only found on two of these
bodies: Earth and Io. However, volcanoes
bodies could be erupting on Venus or Jupiter's
moon, Europa.
