Entrepreneurship Development
• Bioentrepreneurship is the process of creating value from life science
innovation.
• It is referred to by several names including bioscience entrepreneurship, life
science entrepreneurship or bioscience enterprise.
• Therefore, bioentrepreneurship encloses an understanding of an idea, invents
something, brings about the sum of all activities to create an environment and
infrastructure for well-trained professionals to build research-based projects
and their commercialization.
• "three pillars" of bioentrepreneurship:
• a quality management team,
• adequate financing, and
• access to new technology that leads to products.
• While establishing these pillars to support your company is difficult, maintaining
them over time is an even bigger challenge.
• In simple words, entrepreneurship is the process of launching any new
business based on an innovative idea. On the other hand,
bioentrepreneurship is the process that is started in the field of science (i.e.,
biotechnology).
• Nowadays, bio-industrialization is the key to being a modern and developed
country, and this is the only reason bioentrepreneurs are highly in demand.

• Bio entrepreneurs as individuals seem to sit at the highest end of the educational
spectrum. The vast majority of biotechnology businesses are started up by holders
of science degrees, MBAs, PhDs and various other tertiary qualifications.
• Their ages tend to be much older at the initiation stage of the enterprise as
compared with the traditional entrepreneurs. This is mainly due to the length of
time spent in university, as well as the time required to develop the idea into a
viable product.
• The challenges of financing from venture capitalists prove to be a constant
struggle for the bio entrepreneur. Similarly, risk-taking comes from dealing with
the uncertainties of R&D, a rapidly evolving marketplace and the nebulous field of
intellectual property.
• Bioentrepreneurs use uncontrolled, scarce resources: Bioentrepreneurs use
resources that are difficult to find and frequently have to bootstrap and scrap
together technology, people, power, money, and other resources to move their
ideas forward.
