STS Report

1. The prefrontal cortex, involved in decision-making and working memory, is believed to be dysfunctional. 2. The hippocampus, involved in memory formation and retrieval, is believed to be smaller. 3. The amygdala, involved in emotional processing, may be overactive, contributing to paranoia and hallucinations. 4. The thalamus, involved in sensory processing, is disrupted, leading to abnormal sensory experiences. 5. The ventral striatum, involved in reward processing, is believed to be underactive, contributing to a lack of motivation.

Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a
person thinks, feels, sadand behaves.

It is a complex illness that can involve a range of symptoms, including

delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech and behavior, and social
withdrawal.

The onset of schizophrenia usually occurs in late adolescence or early

adulthood, and it affects both men and women equally.

The causes of schizophrenia are not fully understood, but it is thought to be

caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and neurochemical
factors.

Treatment for schizophrenia usually involves a combination of medications,

therapy, and social support. While there is no cure for schizophrenia, with
appropriate treatment, many people with the disorder are able to manage
their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives.
