Abraham bargains with God to spare the city of Sodom if righteous people are found there. Abraham asks God if he would destroy the city if 50, then 45, 40, 30, 20, or 10 righteous people were found within it. God agrees each time that he would spare the city for the sake of the righteous people. However, Lot is the only righteous person found in Sodom, so God destroys the city as the people are exceedingly wicked.

GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
22 Then the men turned away from
there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. 23 And Abraham came near and
said, “Would You also destroy
the righteous with the wicked? GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
24 Suppose there were fifty righteous
within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? 26 So the Lord said, “If I find in
Sodom fifty righteous within the city,
then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
28Suppose there were five less
than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.” GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
29And he spoke to Him yet again
and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there?” So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.” GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
30Then he said, “Let not the Lord
be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
31And he said, “Indeed now, I have
taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.” GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
32Then he said, “Let not the Lord
be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” GENESIS 18:22-33 NKJV
33So the Lord went His way as soon
as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place. 🔎 COMMUNITY AND IMMUNITY_ Genesis 18:16-33 CONFIDANT CONSTITUENT COMRADES JONAH 1:1-3 NIV
1 The word of the Lord came to
Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh
and preach against it, because its
wickedness has come up before me.” JONAH 1:1-3 NIV 3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord
and headed for Tarshish. He went
down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord. MATTHEW 5:13-16 NIV 13 “You are the salt of the earth.
But if the salt loses its
saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. MATTHEW 5:13-16 NIV 13“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. GENESIS 18:16-21 NKJV 16 Then the men rose from there and
looked toward Sodom, and Abraham
went with them to send them on the way. 17 And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, GENESIS 18:16-21 NKJV 18 since Abraham shall surely
become a great and mighty nation,
and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? GENESIS 18:16-21 NKJV 19 For I have known him, in order
that he may command his children
and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” GENESIS 18:16-21 NKJV 20 And the Lord said, “Because the
outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah
is great, and because their sin is very grave,21 I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.” GENESIS 19:12-14 NKJV 12 Then the men said to Lot, “Have
you anyone else here? Son-in-law,
your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place! GENESIS 19:12-14 NKJV 14 So Lot went out and spoke to his
sons-in-law, who had married his
daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking. 🔎 COMMUNITY AND IMMUNITY_ Genesis 18:16-33
