Prescriptive Drug- It is a drug that can only
be purchased with the written permission from a
physician.
Over the Counter Drug- It is a drug used to
treat minor illness that can be purchased even
without permission coming from a license
doctor/physician.
Dosage- It is the amount of drug taken at a particular time.
Types of Dosage:
1. Lethal- It refers to the amount of drug that
will cause death.
2. Abusive- refers to the amount of drug
- Excess;
- Dangerous combinations;
- By hypersensitive (allergic) person
DANGEROUS EFFECTS OF DRUGS
1. Poisonous Property- It produces
harmful effect to the system of a
person due to the presence of toxin.
2. Idiosyncrasy- It is a peculiarity of
the physical or the mental
constitution, especially susceptibility
towards drugs, foods etc.
3. Side Effects- It is the undesirable
effect of the drug when the
treatment goes beyond the desired
therapeutic effect.
4.Overdose- It happens when the
amount of drug taken by a person is
too much or above the prescription.
5.Allergy-It refers to an exaggerated
reaction by our immune system in
response in bodily contact with certain
foreign substances. It exaggerated
because these foreign substances are
usually seen by the body as harmless
and no response occurs in non-allergic
people. Allergic people’s bodies
recognize the foreign substances and
one part of the immune system is
turned on.
Medical Uses of Drugs
1.Sedatives and Tranquilizers- These
are drugs that can calm and quiet the
nerves and relieve anxiety without
causing depression and clouding of the
mind.
2. Analgesics- These are sometimes
referred to as painkiller medications.
Examples of these drugs are aspirin,
ibuprofen and naproxen.
3. Vitamins- These are drugs
necessary for normal growth,
development and proper
functioning of the body.

Acid Head- refers to LSD user.
A Fix- refers to one injection of opiate.
A Hit- the slang for injection of drugs.
Coke- street term for cocaine.
Cold Turkey- refers to withdrawal effects of
opiate use.
Downer- the street slang for depressant,
Drop- the taking of drugs through the mouth.
Flashback- refers to a drug use after stoppage.
Head- refers to a drug user.
High- term used to describe that a person is
under the influence of drugs.
Joint- refers to a marijuana cigarette.
Juni- the slang term for heroin.
Junkie- refers to an opiate addict.
Mainline/ To shoot- The injection of a drug
into the vein.
On- the-Nod/ Nodding- refers to a suspended
sleep
Opiate- the slang term for narcotics.
Overdose- the term used when death
occurred due to the excessive use of
drugs.
Roach- refers to butt end of a joint.
Rush- the beginning of a high.
Skin Popping- to inject a drug under a
skin.
Speed- refers to amphetamine
Speed Freaks- refers to amphetamine
addict.
Stoned- the intoxicating effect of a drug.
Trip- the reaction that is caused by drugs.
Track- refers to scars on the skin caused by
injection of drugs.
Uppers- street slang for amphetamine.
Work- refers to apparatus for injecting a drug.
