ENGINEERING
CANDIDATE’S DECLARATION

 I hereby declare that the work, which is being presented in the

summer training report, entitled “Redevelopment of GPRA Colony”
in partial fulfilment for the award of Degree of “Bachelor of
Technology” in Department of CIVIL ENGINEERING, and
submitted to the Department of Civil Engineering, Amity School of
Engineering & Technology, Amity University Rajasthan. This is a
record of my own training preparing under the guidance of Mr.
Sumit Sharma , Supervisor.
CERTIFICATE
ABOUT THE COMPANY

 HTCL is growing in infrastructure industry, having executed landmark projects

that have defined the country’s progress since 2013.
 Maintaining our legacy of innovation in engineering and construction, we
continue to add new milestones with every passing year.
 Continually innovate, develop and adopt state-of-the-art technologies,
methodologies and materials to deliver customer satisfaction through better,
faster and cheaper construction services.
 Continually aspire to deliver higher standards of safety, occupational health and
environment protection at work.
ABOUT THE PROJECT

 The Project is Re-development of GPRA Colony at Netaji Nagar,

with total area of 109.32 acre.
 The plot area of the current development is 136463 sqm. (33.72
acres).
 The work involves the construction of General Pool Office
Accommodation, SARTAC Office, SARTAC Hostel and various
Social Infrastructure Buildings
 Monolithic RCC framed structure.
 Structure has 3 basements and situated in populated area
SAFETY MEASURES
DIAPHRAGM WALL

 Diaphragm wall is a reinforced concrete structure constructed in-

situ panel by panel.

 The wall is usually designed to reach very great depth, sometimes

up to 50m

 Diaphragm Wall is generally reinforced concrete wall constructed in

the ground using Under slurry technique which was developed in
Europe.
Diaphragm wall is a continuous wall constructed in ground in to facilitate
certain construction activities, such as:

 As a retaining wall
 As a cut-off provision to support deep excavation
 As the final wall for basement or other underground structure (e.g. tunnel
and shaft)
 As a separating structure between major underground facilities
 As a form of foundation (barrette pile –rectangular pile)
 The wall is usually designed to reach very great depth, sometimes up to
50 m.
COMMON USES OF DIAPHRAGM WALLS

 Structural support for the construction of building basements with

underground parking.
 Add stability to landslides, highway cuts and deep building
excavations including circular shafts.
 Provide retaining walls in areas where severe limitations may be
posed by noise, vibration, geology, water table and schedule.
 Provide deep diaphragms where geometric precision and continuity
at depth are vital for structural and hydraulic reasons.
ADVANTAGES OF DIAPHRAGM WALL

 Suitable for unstable soil profiles below water table.

 Limited construction time.
 Where deeper than normal cantilever support may needed.
 Designable to carry vertical loads.
 Construction time of basement can be lower.
 Minimize the settlement of adjacent
CONSTRUCTION METHOD

 Form tubes of 1 m diameter and 30 m long have been successfully

used Excavation of each trench panel shall be done with the help of
suitable machinery.

 The trench panel shall be kept filled with bentonite slurry of suitable
consistency and viscosity during the excavation period.
 A stop end tube with a smooth surface, or a structural section shall be
inserted in the trench at the end of the panel to support concrete and to
form a suitable joint with the next panels.

 Reinforcement cage shall then be lowered in the trench panel and suitably
supported.

 The concrete cover for the reinforcement shall be maintained by the use of
spacers
EXCAVATION

CABLE ANCHORING IN DIAPHRAGM WALL

CABLE ANCHORING WORK

 The work shall be executed to stabilize the excavated slope and vertical
wall.

 Post tensioned cable anchors are tensioned reinforcing elements of

higher capacity than the other reinforcing elements, consisting of high
tensile steel tendon.

 The contractor shall furnish and install post tensioned cable anchors of
1200KN ultimate strength and 900 KN working load in area and to the
extent shown on the drawings and as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge.
 The work shall be executed in stages, in step with progress of the excavation or
after the excavation has proceeded downwards as directed by Engineer in
charge.

 Installation of cable anchors shall be undertaken after development of suitable

bench to be executed by the contractor.

 The works shall include drilling, installation of anchors (with complete

accessories and corrosion protection layers), primary grouting, stressing and
testing and final grouting.

 The entire work of drilling, fabrication, installation, grouting and testing of post
tensioning cable anchors shall be carried out by a specialist agency having
experience, equipment and technology for execution of these works and under
strict quality control.
 FOOTING METHODOLOGY
An isolated footing is one of the most used types of foundation to support
single-columns when they are arranged at a long distance.
These types of footing are square, circular , or individually rectangular slab of
uniform thickness , provided under each column.
ADVANTAGES OF ISOLATED FOOTING

• The cost of isolated foundations is quite low.

• It is simple to build isolated footings.
• Less earth excavation is required.
• High-skilled labour are not required.
ADVANTAGES OF REINFORCED CONCRETE (RCC)

1. Reinforced concrete has a high compressive strength compared to

other building materials.
2. Due to the provided reinforcement, reinforced concrete can also
withstand a good amount tensile stress.
3. The reinforced concrete building system is more durable than any
other building system.
4. The maintenance cost of reinforced concrete is very low.
5. It acts like a rigid member with minimum deflection.
6. Compared to the use of steel in structure, reinforced concrete
requires less skilled labor.
MY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Some of the activities that I participated in during my internship with the company
include but not limited to:

 Project supervision and management.

 Taking care of equipment store room.

 To check the safety equipment at the construction site .

CONCLUSION

 Overall experience is good, feel like little bit experienced. All time
period of training was full of enjoyable , and knowledgeable with
fully experienced supervisor. I learnt lot of things about footing and
road construction.
