Module 6

Innovative
Technologies for
Assessment Tasks in
Teaching and
Learning
LESSON 1: ICT AND ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING

LESSON 2: CRITERIA IN CHOOSING APPROPRIATE

ASSESSMENT TOOLS
LESSON 1: ICT AND ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING

ASSESSMENT- discovering,acquiring, and

interpreting data on a students progress.
TYPES OF ASSESSMENT
1. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT – feedbacks/informations

are gathering during the instructional

process.
2. SUMMATIVE TEST –sums up the teaching and
learning process.
3.DIAGNOSTIC TEST –identifies student’s current
aptitude.
4. AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT – reflects student
learning,achievement motivation,and attitudes
on instructionally relevant classroom activities.
THE ROLE OF ICT IN ASSESSMENT IN LEARNING
 As a medium for students to

develop higher-level thinking.

 As a data collector,storage,

and retrievable.

 As an innovation and support for

teaching, learning to improve

instruction and performance.
CURRENT TRENDS IN ASSESSMENT OF
LEARNING

 Traditional assessment lie objectives tests.

 Describe main trends within educational evaluation.

 Evaluation and assessment as levels of change.

THE 21ST CENTURY ASSESSMENT INCLUDES:
1. Increasing the use of technology.

2.Focus on the growth and development

of the learners

3.Differentiating the roles and responsibilities

THE CONCEPT OF CLASSROOM HAS BEEN
SHIFTING IN RECENT YEARS
• Information travels at the speed of light.

• Information becomes vital to our

personal and national well-being.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
• Promote the development of learning.

• Create attractive and effective

learning environment.

• Introduced new exciting and innovative

for student’s engagement.

ONLINE LEARNING

• Initiatives often fail to engage and teach

students.
ACTIVE LEARNING
• Learning activity which students interact or engaged.

• Parents help learner engage in learning experience at home.

• Teachers gives activities that are intentional, meaningful and useful.

• Activities which involves students interaction with content.

Lesson 2

CRITERIA IN CHOOSING
APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENT
TOOLS
CONSIDERED IN CHOOSING APPROPRIATE
ASSESSMENT TOOLS:
 Goals of assessment:

 Methods of assessment either direct or indirect:

 The interval in giving assessment:

CHOOSING APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENT TOOLS:

During teaching, teachers not only have to

communicate the information they planned but
also continuously monitor students’ learning and
motivation in order to determine whether
modifications have to be made (Airasian,2005)
CHOOSING APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENT TOOLS:
DIRECT METHODS-are examinations, written assignments,
presentations, and performance, internship supervisor,
rating of student skills, portfolios and dissertation etc.

INDIRECT METHOD –can provide a useful supplement

and check on the findings from direct measures
SELECTING APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENT TOOLS
WHETHER CONVENTIONAL OR ICT _BASED
ASSESSMENT
1. Measure the desired level of performance.

2.Cost effective in terms of effort, time and money.

3.Useful tools that will provide results that will provide

information that can be used.
4.Reasonable, accurate and truthful.

5.Dependable,consistent response overtime.

6.Evidence on-going, and not once to be done.

CREATING AND UTILIZING RUBRIC

RUBRICS – set of criteria determining tasks score.

-it’s purpose is to assess student’s
performance.
2 TYPES OF RUBRICS
1.ANALYTIC RUBRICS- work's describe on each criterion.

2. HOLLISTIC RUBRICS – by applying all the criteria.

CREATING AND UTILIZING RUBRIC

• TECHNOLOGY – for assessing student- learning in various purposes.

• ELECTRONIC EXAMINATION – also called COMPURTER_BASES

ASSESSMENT(CBA) COMPUTER_BASES TESTING(CBT)<or E_EXAM

• E-EXAM – were developed for professional certification.

• COMPUTER-BASED TESTING- more efficient than paper-based test.

COMPUTERIZED DELIVERY OF OBJECTIVE TEST:

1. Bank of questions but of an equivalent standard.

2. Automatic computerized marking facilities immediate feedback.

3. Students can be invited to sit test.

4. Computerized recording of results facilities analysis of response

to
questions.
 The teacher may consider balance

assessment.

 Computerized testing facilities provide rapid

means of assessing and providing feedback.

 Computerized-based testing has many advantages,

for credentialing program and for the examinees.

 Certain dis advantages: greater demands

on program and resources.

 It is important to note that teachers

should use variety of assessment methods.

 Paper and pencil testing: common assessment procedures

utilized by teacher to gather formal evidences.

 Paper and pencil instruments are assessment

tools, which students with questions respond in writing.

ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO
 Also known as ePortfolio, digital portfolio, or online portfolio.
 Collection of electronic evidence assembled and manage by a user.
 Demonstrates the user’s abilities and platforms for self expression.
 Eportfolio includes input text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog
entries, and hyperlinks.
TYPES OF ePORTFOLIO
 IDEAL PORTFOLIO - contains all works of students.

 PROFESSIONAL PORFTFOLIO -demonstrate highlights

of student academic career.

 DOCUMENTATION PORTFOLIO - collection of work

overtimes.
 LEARNING ePORTFOLIO -part of learning activity.

 EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT ePORTFOLIOS - the teacher

utilize this for both formative and

summative assessment feedback.
