Chlamydia
Genital Herpes
Gonorrhea
Syphilis
CHLAMYDIA
one of the most common STIs
It is caused by a bacterium that
exists in vaginal secretions and
semen ("cum"). It can be spread by
vaginal, oral, or anal sex without a
condom
SYMPTOMS (MEN)
Many men don’t notice the
symptoms of chlamydia. Most men
have no symptoms at all. It may
appear 1-3 weeks after
transmission.
burning sensation during urination
SYMPTOMS (MEN)
yellow or green discharge
from the penis
pain in the lower abdomen
pain in the testicles
SYMPTOMS (WOMEN)
If a woman contracts the STI, it may
take several weeks before any
symptoms appear.
painful sexual intercourse
(dyspareunia)
vaginal discharge
SYMPTOMS (WOMEN)
burning sensation during
urination
pain in the lower abdomen
inflammation of the cervix
(cervicitis)
bleeding between periods
TREATMENT
Infected persons and their sexual
partners must be tested and treated
with antibiotics.
Azithromycin is an antibiotic usually
prescribed in a single, large dose.
Doxycycline is an antibiotic that must be
taken twice per day for about one week
GENITAL HERPES
is a common sexually transmitted
infection caused by the herpes
simplex virus (HSV). Sexual contact is
the primary way that the virus
spreads.
SYMPTOMS (MEN)
pain or itching
Small red bumps or white tiny blisters
Ulcers
sores develop on the buttocks and
thighs, anus, mouth, urethra, penis and
scrotum
SYMPTOMS (WOMEN)
sores develop on the vaginal area,
external genital area and cervix
TREATMENT
The suggestions for preventing
genital herpes are the same as
those for preventing other sexually
transmitted infections: Abstain from
sexual activity or limit sexual
contact to only one person who is
infection-free.
TREATMENT
Use, or have your partner use, a
latex condom during every sexual
contact
Avoid intercourse if either partner
has an outbreak of herpes in the
genital area or anywhere else.
GONORRHEA
is an infection caused by a sexually
transmitted bacterium that infects
both males and females.
It affects the urethra, rectum or
throat. In females, gonorrhea can
also infect the cervix.
SYMPTOMS (MEN)
Painful urination
Pus-like discharge from the tip of the
penis
Pain or swelling in one testicle
SYMPTOMS (WOMEN)
Increased vaginal discharge
Painful urination
Vaginal bleeding between periods,
such as after vaginal intercourse
Abdominal or pelvic pain
TREATMENT
To reduce gonorrhea risk:
• Use a condom if you have sex
• Limit your number of sex
partners.
• Be sure you and your partner are
tested for sexually transmitted
infections.
TREATMENT
• Don't have sex with someone
who appears to have a sexually
transmitted infection.
• Consider regular gonorrhea
screening.
SYPHILIS
is a bacterial infection usually
spread by sexual contact.
it starts as a painless sore —
typically on your genitals, rectum or
mouth.
SYMPTOMS (WOMEN)
Primary syphilis generally has a sore or
sores at the original site of infection.
These sores usually occur on or around
the genitals, around the anus or in the
rectum, or in or around the mouth. These
sores are usually (but not always) firm,
round, and painless.
SYMPTOMS (WOMEN)
Secondary syphilis include skin rash,
swollen lymph nodes, and fever. The
signs and symptoms of primary and
secondary syphilis can be mild, and
they might not be noticed. Tertiary
syphilis is associated with severe
medical problems.
TREATMENT
There is no vaccine for syphilis. To help prevent the
spread of syphilis, follow these suggestions:
Abstain or be monogamous sex.
Use a latex condom.
Avoid recreational drugs
INFERTILITY
2. INFERTILITY IN MEN
can be caused by low sperm
production, abnormal sperm function
or blockages that prevent the
delivery of sperm. Illnesses, injuries,
chronic health problems, lifestyle
choices and other factors may
contribute to male infertility.
SYMPTOMS
Problems with sexual function — for
example, difficulty with ejaculation or
small volumes of fluid ejaculated, reduced
sexual desire, or difficulty maintaining an
erection (erectile dysfunction)
Pain, swelling or a lump in the testicle area
SYMPTOMS
Inability to smell
A lower than normal sperm count
(fewer than 15 million sperm per
milliliter of semen or a total sperm
count of less than 39 million per
ejaculate)
TREATMENT
surgery
Antibiotic
Hormone treatments and
medications.
3. INFERTILITY IN WOMEN
Causes:
- Damage to fallopian tubes
- hormonal problems
- cervical issues
Unexplained infertility
Sometimes, the cause of infertility is never
found. A combination of several minor
factors in both partners could cause
unexplained fertility problems. Although
it's frustrating to get no specific answer, this
problem may correct itself with time. But,
you shouldn't delay treatment for
infertility.
4. DYSMENORRHEA
menstrual cramps
annoying parts of your
period.
SYMPTOMS
Aching pain in your belly (sometimes
severe)
A feeling of pressure in your belly
Pain in your hips, lower back, and
inner thighs
TREATMENT
take ibuprofen as soon as bleeding
or cramping starts.
Place a heating pad or hot water
bottle on your lower back or
abdomen.
Rest when needed.
Avoid foods that contain caffeine.
TREATMENT
Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.
Massage your lower back and
abdomen.
Yoga.
Massage.
Relaxation or breathing exercises.
5. VAGINITIS
inflammation or infection of
the vagina.
caused by fungal infection,
irritation from chemicals
SYMPTOMS
Abnormal vaginal discharge with an
unpleasant odor
Burning feeling outside of the vagina
during urination
Itching around the outside of the
vagina
Discomfort during intercourse
TREATMENT
Use an over-the-counter
medication specifically for
yeast infections.
Apply a cold compress
6. CERVICAL CANCER
The cancer cells grow in the
cervix
SYMPTOMS
Bleeding between regular
menstrual periods
The menstrual bleeding is
heavier or lasts longer than
usual
SYMPTOMS
Bleeding after sexual
intercourse
Bleeding after a pelvic
examination
Increased vaginal discharge
Pain sexual intercourse
TREATMENT
Surgery
Radiation therapy
Chemotherapy
7.PROSTATE CANCER
cancer cells grow in the
prostate
SYMPTOMS
No obvious signs or
symptoms
Early stage prostate cancers
are detected only through a
digital rectal exam
Frequent urination
SYMPTOMS
The patient gets up often
during the night to urinate.
Pain or discomfort while
urinating
Blood in the urine or semen
Back pain
TREATMENT
It involves surgery and hormonal
therapy
Radiation therapy and
chemotherapy may also be used
INDIVIDUAL WORK
What is your concrete
action to increase your
awareness about
reproductive diseases?
Explain
I pray that all may go well
with you and that you may be
in good health, as it goes well
with your soul.
