What is Loksabha?
As per the provision of Article 79 of
Indian Constitution, the House of the
People, the Lok Sabha is the lower
House of the parliament. Lok Sabha is
composed of representatives of the
people chosen by direct election on the
basis of the adult suffrage (One who is
18 years and above can vote).

Composition
∙ The Constitution of India allows for
a maximum of 550 members in
the House, with 530 members
representing the States and 20
representing the Union
Territories.

PRIME MINISTER –Position and Function
POSITION
∙ Prime minister- the elected head of the country
∙ PM-leader of the majority party or coalition party
∙ PM is the link between the President, The People and The
Parliament.
∙ PM advises the President in charge about the decisions
taken by the Council of Minister.
FUNCTION
∙ Distributes portfolios among the ministers and presides
over the meetings of the council of Ministers
∙ Co-ordinates working of the different department
∙ Expands the Council of Minister and demands the
resignation of any minister
∙ PM answerable for the success or failure of the government
⮚ The Cabinet is the inner core of the council.
⮚ Holds important portfolios
⮚ Highest rank and great responsibilities
⮚ Hold the real executive power of the Indian
Government.
⮚ The cabinet can remain in office (the whole
term ) as it enjoys the confidence of a
majority in the Loksabha.
⮚ If the vote of no confidence is passed
against any one cabinet minister, the whole
council of minister will have to resign.
Conversely the PM can move a confidence
motion to prove the strength of the
government in Loksabha
NO CONFIDENCE MOTION
A no-confidence motion is a
parliamentary process that allows
the opposition to challenge the
government's majority and ability to
govern. If the motion is passed, the
government must resign.
