TAIZE

PRAYER
Introduction: Very often, a young
man or a woman who dared to pray
alone in a church has been, by their
perseverance, a living appeal to
others. It only takes one for many
to be drawn along in the end. Our
aspiration is to follow Christ. By
what sign can we recognize that we
had encountered him? When, as we
search for him in prayer, our inner
struggles do not harden us but lead
us to the very wellsprings of His
love. And a way forward takes
shape: it always leads from worries
toward trusting in God.

WATCH AND PRAY
HOLY SPIRIT,
COME TO US
KINDLE IN US THE
FIRE OF YOUR
LOVE
HOLY SPIRIT,
COME TO US
HOLY SPIRIT,
COME TO US
Prayer: We praise you, Christ
Jesus. In Your Gospel, you
assure us that God welcomes
us as we are, with what is
good, but also with our
frailties and even our defects.
For You, every human being
is infinitely precious.

Because of this good news we

find inner peace. And You
send us out to communicate
this peace to those around us.
Prayer: God of consolation,
even when we feel nothing of
your presence, still you are
there. Your presence is
invisible but your Holy Spirit
is always within us.

Psalm

With all my voice I cry to you, Lord,

with all my voice I entreat you, Lord.

I pour out my trouble before you;

I tell you all my distress
while my spirit faints within me.

But you, O Lord, know my path.

On the way where I shall walk
they have hidden a snare to
entrap me.

Look on my right and see:

there is no one who takes my part.

I have no means of escape,

not one who cares for my soul.
I cry to you, O Lord,

I have said, “You are my refuge

I have in the
land of the living.”

Listen, then, to my cry

for I am in the depths of distress
Rescue me from those who pursue me fo
they are stronger than I.

Bring my soul out of this prison

and then I shall praise your name.

Around me the just will assemble

because of your goodness to me.

(Psalm 142)
Reading

Paul wrote: Let the same mind be in you that

was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in
the form of God, did not regard equality
with God as something to be exploited, but
emptied himself, taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness. And being
found in human form, he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross. Therefore God also
highly exalted him and gave him the name
that is above every name, so that at the name
of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven
and on earth and under the earth, and every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, you have
a call for every one of us. So
come, prepare our hearts to
discover what it is that you
expect of each of us.
Litany of praise

Let us contemplate Jesus the Lord: instead

of the joy meant for him, he endured the
cross, disregarding its disgrace.

Let our response be: We worship you,

Lord, upon the cross.
O Jesus Christ,
born in humility to confound
the proud and to raise the
humble

—We worship you, Lord, upon

the cross.
You lived among us, healing
the sick, proclaiming Good
News to the poor and
freedom to prisoners.

—We worship you, Lord, upon

the cross.
You came to unbind the chains
of every slavery, friend of the
humble, bread of hungry
hearts,

—We worship you, Lord, upon

the cross.
Jesus, full of patience and
goodness, you showed
forgiveness and kindness to
the very end.

—We worship you, Lord, upon

the cross.
Jesus, gentle and humble of
heart, you call to yourself all
who are weary and
burdened.

—We worship you, Lord, upon

the cross.
Jesus, you came into the world to
serve and to give your life; you
were betrayed for money,
dragged before judges and nailed
to the cross.

—We worship you, Lord, upon the

cross.
Jesus, Lord of the universe, by your
resurrection from the dead you
are alive at the Father’s side and
there you prepare a place for us.

—We worship you, Lord, upon the

cross.
JESUS, REMEMBER ME
WHEN YOU COME INTO
YOUR KINGDOM
Prayer: God of all loving, you
always welcome us. Why
should we wait for our hearts to
be changed in order to live for
you? You offer all we need to
soothe and heal our wounds.
Prayer: God of every human
being, when we have a simple
longing to welcome your love, a
flame rises up little by little
deep in our souls. Very fragile
though it may be, it always
keeps burning.

THE LOVE OF GOD

REVEALED TO US
IN CHRIST JESUS
O Christ, gentle and humble,
on the cross you stretched
out your arms over all
humanity, you offer us
peace with your
forgiveness,
Response:
LORD, FILL OUR
HEARTS WITH
YOUR PEACE.
For those who strive to make the
earth a place where all can live
well to reduce inequities, for
those who are mistreated or
humiliated, for the victims of
torture or abuse, for those who
are suffering from starvation,
Response:
LORD, FILL OUR
HEARTS WITH
YOUR PEACE.
For the Church spread across the
world, for the unity of
Christians, and for all who love
God, for believers of every
religion,
Response:
LORD, FILL OUR
HEARTS WITH
YOUR PEACE.
For all the young people and for
those who help them to trust
in God, may they recognize
You in the least of our
brothers and sisters,
Response:
LORD, FILL OUR
HEARTS WITH
YOUR PEACE.
For those whose lives are ending,
for those who take care of
them and live with them, do
not let their hearts be troubled,
reassure them in their darkest
night, grant them joy,
Response:
LORD, FILL OUR
HEARTS WITH
YOUR PEACE.
Prayer: Christ Jesus, Your
compassion is for every human
being. In Your love we seek
healing for our wounds. And in
the Gospel you tell us: go
towards the excluded, the poor,
the abandoned: in them You
will meet me, Christ.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, in you we
are offered a way of discovering
this amazing reality: God does
not wish suffering or distress
for people, he never creates fear
or anguish in us. God can only
love us.
