HURT AND GRIEVOUS HURT

Hurt
• The ‘Hurt’ is defined in Section 319, IPC, 1860.
• Hurt must be caused by one person to
another person.
• Hurt must be caused voluntarily.

Hurt
• If act neither intended nor likely to cause death-
Case may be of hurt provided the injury caused
was not serious.
• Cases- Bysagoonashyo Case
Anis Beg Case
Marana Goundan Case
• Voluntarily causing hurt (S.321).
• Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt(S.323).
Grievous Hurt
• Defined in Section 320, IPC, 1860.
• More serious kind of hurt.
• Must be voluntarily inflicted.

• Voluntarily causing grievous hurt (S.322).
• Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous
hurt (S.325).
